Yes, I plan to have only 50 birds come winter... I always said I wouldn't butcher them, but chicken math added up and I plan to take them to auction this fall.
Thank you so much for that insight! I think this fall (my husbands a farmer and right now is NOT the time to be asking for assistance in the coop ha!) maybe I can get hubby to take the floors out of the coop for the DLM. Until then, perhaps I should go back to what I was doing in the winter-...
How long do you think I could leave pine shavings on the floor for 100 birds? We did that this past winter when they were all staying in because of snow- we scooped out all the sand and added bags of pine shavings and just "fluffed them" every evening. Is this a practical approach or would we be...
We have a coop that is about 20ft long by about 10 feet deep. Inside is all perches and nest boxes, and then the chickens have a covered run and are free range all day.
Inside of our coop, we have a plywood floor, and about an inch of sand. Every morning I go out and use a scoop (homemade -...

I am seriously hoping that this is as easy as it sounds. I'm not sure though. I will call the office on Monday. I have donated some this week, but today alone I got 51 eggs. How did chicken...
Hey guys! Long time no chat! I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of how to sell eggs at a local farmers market. Like what do I type in google to get it all figured out? Once before I had the link, but I only had 12 chickens at the time, and then I didn't really have enough...
I'm going thru my first set too! Except I have 4 broodys!! My first 3 eggs under one hen should hatch tomorrow
Opinions on putting a "curtain" in front of the box the broody is in?
Advice needed...
We have a coop big enough for maybe 45-50 chickens to sleep (roost wise, we have 52 feet of perches). We had 12 chickens inside the coop, and then in the run we had a 10ft by 10ft dog kennel with perches inside (and covered) to integrate 21 "teenage" chicks. They are now 15...
I think I might go to the bank tomorrow and talk to a friend that is a loan officer there. I guess I probably need title work and all of that jazz. That's a bummer for a ½ acre lot.... oh well. I'd rather do it right :)
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to do next....
Our neighbor owns 3 different lots, and one of them joins ours. We would like to buy that joining lot. We have agreed on a purchase price, and I plan to pay him cash (no loan). Whats the next step? Do I HAVE to get a lawyer...

Not to bash meyer... we ordered 15 pullet chicks from them in December and of those 15:
5 are males
1 had a displaced ligament and will have to be put down
3 had curled toes and so far haven't been able to perch.
Not sure if that makes your decision any easier or not...

It's beginning to feel a lot like spring here in Southern IN. We are supposed to get close to 70 tomorrow and in the 70s on Monday. In observance of that... I took a half day . DH wanted to know why I needed to do that when we were about to have a whole summer ahead of us. He just doesn't...
We used 2x4 welded wire 12.5 Guage for our run, and it was cheaper than chanlink. It was 5ft. We were fencing off a camper car port, but we also went to the garden section of lowes and got a plastic "deer fencing" for the top of the fence to keep predators from swooping in.
I have a WIN to share with ya'll ~ The babies are 3 weeks old Monday, and I've done everything I can think of to make them love me. All 16 of them. Nothing has worked... not hours of having my hand in the trough with them, not breaking up meal worms, not even taking feed and trying. NOTHING...
Wow! I guess the price of living is higher there in CA! Our local Aldi often has white eggs for $0.79 and the brown eggs at Walmart here are $2.89 (thats not organic). I get a lot of egg cartons from people who "save them" and they are 90% Aldi cartons. Before I got into chickens I wouldn't even...
