INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I actually like this out-take. I also take a lot of pics & think I get some good ones only because of the volume. Here are some pics from this morning: Others just look grumpy. LOL I actually took my camera outside to take pics of what has become our daily visitor. I kept the flock inside the run longer than usual, so that explains all of their the grumpy expressions.
Haha, yeah, I really like that one, too. It's more of an 'outtake' because this is what I was going for with that shot:
700
And even that didn't turn out like I wanted because Lucky (the little man to the right) was being a stinker. As usual. Did you notice in the 'outtake' version, though, that Ramsay was hovering in the background. He must have hopped off the EcoGlow just as I took the picture. Love the grumpy faces! My girls have had plenty of grumpy faces to throw my way, and for a similar reason. Gorgeous red-tail, but I'm sure you don't want him hanging around! We're plagued with juvenile Cooper's hawks, this year even worse than usual. :/ Makes it really hard for me to admire them as much as I usually do when they're looking to make dinner out of my beloved girls!
:( I take care of my parents full time. Its my "job" for several years now. Both are 80+ have contracted Whooping cough. I had no idea this virus was still active! Both are in their 80s and its really impacted my Dads health. One of my siblings were not thinking and visited, had been sick with it too. Dads very sick and not recovering from it well at all. Working with their DR. I am sharing this because I hope others won't go through it. Think about your health before you visit elderly family or young children.
Thoughts and healing vibes for your parents. :hugs Sound advise, not a lot of people think about this when visiting family.
Anyone go to swap meets this last year? Dh has finally agreed to a new species, Emu! Yep am gonna do it! My question is, has anyone seen any at swap meets? Or know of breeders locally?
OOOH BOY, you're going for it! I can't help you with locating them, but I can say I've never seen Emus or eggs at swap meets when I used to go. Only time I've seen them is eggs for sale on eBay and other auction sites (not that I've ever looked for them... ) and none too close.

I have a WIN to share with ya'll ~ The babies are 3 weeks old Monday, and I've done everything I can think of to make them love me. All 16 of them. Nothing has worked... not hours of having my hand in the trough with them, not breaking up meal worms, not even taking feed and trying. NOTHING. They were continually scared every time I walked in the room and spoke or even changed out their waterer and feed.

Finally a couple days ago I scrambled them one egg. I held it in my hand and BAM! that was it! They were super leary and everyone who was brave enough to try and get a piece would get it and be gone.

This morning I was changing out the bedding and they were running frantically and very upset, so as soon as I got done I came and made them one egg. This time I barely got my arm in the trough with them before they were coming all around and just eating from my hand. They loved it! So this evening I got a handful of crumbles and they were all about it... so here is my win. I have a barred rock lady who got up on my hand tonight and cuddled down above the food while everyone else ate, she even fell asleep later when the food was gone. I thought for sure it was a fluke that she didn't know it was my hand, so later I got another hand full of food and sure enough, after all the food was gone, she hopped up and went to sleep.

The breeder does look promising. I will contact them, I want to hopefully do an onsite visit. I have been to Emu farms a few times before but no one aside from a couple near Columbia city locally. They kept a pair, and I was able to meet the birds, and interact with them. The couple had no interest in sales, intended to keep Emu for their own purposes only. The other 2 farms was one here in Lake Co, and another in MO.
I have followed an Australian member a couple years now that did a daily log, and tons of pictures on them. Lots of insight on diet, flock interaction and pecking order. He no longer updates his thread but does pop up occasionally on other threads.

See, clearly I didn't go looking because I never found any that close.

I have been interested in them a long time now. Since we have half of the 5 acres fenced, its become a possibility. they have to have plenty of room for exercise. My key thing is LGDs before I bring them here. That's going to change a lot of issues for us. We have about 2 acres to finish, and at that point I feel its going to stop predator issues too.

omygosh, omygosh, omygosh!!!I've wanted some for ages but don't have room for them! You so lucky! Can't wait to see them!

Here are some pictures; please tell me what you think they are! (When I say I got a couple, I mean I got six. My chicken counting always seems to get me in trouble with the hubby!

@HoosierSilkie ~ I've been catching up on posts and had to respond to this. I was just at RK on the eastside of Eville and took a few photos of chicks—including the "Ameraucana-Araucana strain" as @Indyshent mentioned. That term posted over the brooder, and I knew the brownish ones were EEs, but wondered what the yellow ones were. I assume they're a different EE color combo, but their markings didn't look similar—not chipmunk looking. Anyone have a guess?

It looked like they were just getting things set up for Chick Days. As annoying as our RKs are here, I must say that they take care of the chicks. I haven't seen pasty butt or any issues over the years. And when a young girl was petting some chicks, an employee was immediately there telling her not to touch (they had lots of signs).

They also had Light Brahmas (I inserted grown hen photo, just fyi).
I'd love to have a Dark Brahma hen some day —triple penciled feathers are gorgeous!
Here's an online photo:
