I don't know what TSC is but since I ONLY buy the birds I've planned on buying, maybe I could contract to their customers as "the voice of reason". LMFAO
I have Pekins, Silver Appleyards, Rouens, Black Swedish, Runners and Runner mixes. They can all clear 18 inches pretty easily. My Muscovy just fly around the yard so a fence would be useless.
I've had new layers give me eggs with just a membrane, with a weird nipple at in end(one was even leaking out of the nipple), eggs as small as a nickel and eggs that are just plain odd in shape and or size. In my experience, no single duck has laid more than 1 or 2 mutant eggs. It all sounds...
If it is nutritional then I would recommend "Blue Seal" unmediated game bird feed. Starter crumbles or Grower Cal pellets. I give this to all my ducks and Muscovy. Yours are old enough that I would go with the Grower Cal pellets. I add a little corn in winter to help fatten them up and they get...
Oh yea, I forgot about the hawks.
I don't worry too much about the hawks around here. I did lose a very small duck to a hawk but my Muscovy are as big if not bigger than the hawks. A hawk did attack one of my females but quickly gave up and flew away as the female Muscovy simply returned...
I've had Muscovy(anywhere from 2 to 9, currently 4). I've never clipped a wing and none have ever flown off. When I get them, I pen them up for a week before I let them freerange. After that they seem to know where home is and don't go very far. They are always in sight of the house.
I have 4 Muscovy, 4 Silver Appleyards, 6 Pekins, 2 rouens(1 drake for each breed, the rest females) And 1 Black Swedish drake. I got all these for meat, eggs and pest control. I also have 1 female mutt duck and 4 runners(1 drake 3 hens) That I keep for eggs and because the ole' lady likes them...
I use what I call a "newbie pen". It's a small pen placed right up against my primary pen. The new ducks live in the newbie pen for a few days to a week. The other ducks can see and investigate the new ducks, and vice versa, with no risk of injury or being run off. After that I just open the...
Ours get about 1/4- 1/2 cup of feed twice a day and about the same amount in treats once a day. They freerange sun up until sun down and get no food in their night pen. They used to get more until I realized they were getting too fat.
If you are worried about protein intake, I use Blue Seal...
I have a brooder pen for my mommas and their young. Shallow water pan(enough to play in) and food with a small shelter. Most are with the rest of the flock by 8 to 10 weeks. I use nest boxes that I can move and put the momma with her eggs in the brooder pen just before hatching. Sometimes I wait...
I live about an hour from you. I have 1 Muscovy drake and 3 hens. They are all pied and barred. 12 and 1/2 weeks old. They were destined for freezer camp(all hatched from the same 2 parents) but if you want them, get in touch with me through PM. I'm sure we can work something out.
They...
I have several Muscovies and they all have the same issue. I find however, that they know when to get wet and when to stay dry. As has been suggested, check the oil gland but I wouldn't worry too much.
I have some Muscovy and while they can fly, they rarely do. They are excellent layers and friendlier than any of my ducks. I also have Silver Appleyards, Pekins, Rouens, Black Swedish and 2 runner mixes. They all lay well. The runner mixes lay eggs about the size of a large chicken egg, the...
I have 1 male Muscovy and 4 hens as well as 4 drakes and 11 ducks. The Muscovy generally breed among themselves, giving me a 1 to 4 ratio and with the ducks, I have 1 to 2.75. I will be adding a couple more ducks in the spring but don't have any problems with my current ratio.
