First timer and I need major help/advice!

60 degrees is a little too cool for one week. Maybe just a regular light bulb in the pen you are keeping them.. If you get a cool night it could be fatal. Mama hen should help. If she is a good broody hen she will keep them warm.

Neighbor threatening to "take out my roosters"

I live in a farming residential area. Its a rural farm town but I only have a little over an acre. I have 4 roosters and they are loud. Tough. I live in the country to be left alone. You don't like my garden or my roosters? I don't like your house color, or your screaming kids or your political...

The chick will kill the quail in about 2 seconds.

    coturnix quail behavior

Here is something that sometimes works, but is not always practical unless you have an abundance of pens. Quail will "defend their territory." Try mixing the two groups in neutral territory. A pen neither group is familiar with. This can work for both Bobwhites and Coturnix. I have done it many...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Well, I had a nice hatch of blacks during Hurricane Irene. I named the largest one Irene. She happily clucked around the place until one day she just put on 2 pounds, grew spurs, and began to crow. I was happy to have him. His name is now Ivan. Unscientifically, it seems my roosters that start...

I've never had an experience this bad with a hatchery before...Randall Burkey Company?

I am pretty sure he runs a smaller operation, although you'd never know it. I have ordered gear from there, but never chickens.

    Fox hunting habits

I take no pleasure in killing. The fox was here thousands of years before me, and will be here thousands of years after me. He eats his weight in rats and mice, and keeps coons and possum away. I welcome them on my land. Kill one and another will appear. He can live near my pheasants and patrol...

    ring neck questions

The problem you may have is that some roosters, especially aggressive ones that kill the other roosters, will become super aggressive in the Spring with only three hens. He should really have 5 or 6 hens or he may harass them to death trying to mate repeatedly. They get crazy. They eat the eggs...

    Hatching eggs

Depends on the outside temperature. If its cool, condensation can form on the egg, and be absorbed into the shell, along with any contaminants. As for the eggs, don't know how many you are getting but having the eggs hatch one or two or three each day is a nightmare. The older chicks will...
