Hen 911 Something caught in her mouth

Hi. We just found one of our hens in the shed. She swallowed part of a long piece of twine and now it is caught. We tried pulling on it but it seems caught. What do we do?!

Just kidded need help! Update with Pics

After looking around I went out tended to their cords and dried them off. Mama is friendly but still really skittish. Under normal circumstances she will come to the fence allow one pat then run off. However, she let me, dh, and ds in with her and the babies. She let me touch her, check her...

I'm searching online places but I knew this would be the best source of info. Back story... Our 1+ yro pygmy Barbara just kidded 2 babies, like just now. DH and I have been talking the past few weeks because she was looking rounder and rounder. She lives with her spouse George and around...

Is this from the Roo? Missing feathers.

Our coop birds are our layers we get anywhere between 6 to 11 eggs a day, mostly the average is 9. We took him out of the coop yesterday afternoon, and let him be with the free range birds. We let him out with plenty of time to find the water, food, and a place to roost. At first all the...

Is this from the Roo? Missing feathers.

Out of 12 birds 9 are hens other than him there is one other RIR and a Old English Bantam. These two Roo's were still pretty small when we had this coop built and the big guy protected them from other roo's so we put them in the coop. The big one is the only roo I have seen mount any of the...

Is this from the Roo? Missing feathers.

No one messes with him, or ever has. He is the biggest and the only one who will actually try to flog DH when he goes in the coop to feed and water. We took him out of the coop and put in a smaller roo, one that is more the size of the hens.

Is this from the Roo? Missing feathers.

I've been looking all over, besides BYC (because of the board issues tonight). A few hens in the coop are missing their feathers on the back end above the tail. Our coop holds up to 24 birds, but we only have 12 in there. We checked the birds for mites, lice, etc and found none. We also...

    Stinkin' Armadillo..

Not only are amadillos hard on your yard some not all carry leporocy (as mentioned above). They won't go after your chickens or goats, but something digging around your yard or coops can make it easier for other predators to dig. I wouldn't let my dogs go after them because of the chance of...

why do the predators only eat my girls?

I don't think anyone that looses a member of thier flock is going to be "happy", wether they are free range or in a pen. I've lost as many birds that are in coops that I have that are free range. Most predators are usually pretty motivated and can still get into a coop. I understand that my...

We moved our game cam tonight. We caught the dog and the guy on it (with the dog off the leash), but you couldn't tell by the pic whose property they were on. That is also good info about the paint, for some reason I thought that was only for official state use. Good to know. Thanks again!

THANK YOU!!!!!! I just got done reading this. It is exactly what I was looking for. I will still call my local county office in the morning, but this will settle my head for tonight. And once I confirm it I will be able to take it with me to the neighbors. The last time we spoke, his wife's...

SSS? I am not sure what that means, I am guessing, but afraid I may be wrong and it could end ugly. City and county ahh well I am one of the lucky ones the county, post office, UPS, and 911 can't agree on where we ACTUALLY live. Do I call the county court house since we are not in city limits?

I am sorry I am not sure where to post this it is a law question about predators... My neighbor has several dogs that get away from them and come to my house to chase the chickens and harrass the goats, cow, and MY dogs. They also have an ever increasing population of cats that come at night...

What's your strangest "barnyard buddies" pair?

They are not great swimmers. I lost a chick in Jacks water trough. Jack loves the chickens he is always real careful with them. My new baby goat is pretty interested in the chickens too, but I have one rooster that tries to attack her when she is out of her pen. I am not crazy about that...

    Weaning baby goat

The one that I would trust isn't very in to people lol. She comes around to snatch a snack then away she goes. I can put the kid in a pen close to the herd that way they "get to know her" without being able to knock her around. Mama died from an injury. She is a good little kid, we named her...
