season 2! I'm up to 30 birds now. The coop design worked okay but now I'll be using the whole barn for chickens and quadruple size run with dividers to grow feeder grains and alternate runs.

    Morrality question about chicks

Thanks, next time I will dress and eat them for sure. I've never killed something I didn't intend to eat so it was weird not to this time. I'm gonna have to have a long talk to my wife about food and where it comes from she's been hesitant about this whole ordeal. While I feel bad for wasting it...

    Buckeye Chicken Breeders

I would be interested about more info on them and possibly want some to replace my meat birds after slaughter. Are they a dp bird? I live in southern Ohio and would be proud to have a local breed. May even try to show later this year if I find the right breeders.

    Morrality question about chicks

Last weekend while tending go my yard I noticed one of my chick's was still doing bad. She had a bad leg and it was getting worse. So I put her out of her misery plain and simple. I had a bonfire going so I disposed of her there so the dogs didn't try and dig her up. While tending the fire I...

Well construction is 99% done. Just need a hatch for the chickies to go in and out of the run. Lost 2 babies one died the first night and the other had a bum leg and couldn't walk. I put her down today. The good news is it was in the 50s so we took a trip to the yard to get fresh air. Lots of...

    Pit bulls in my coop!!

I think they do that so people can adopt them. My pit is registered as a Catahoula/mix/mix I didn't do it, that's just what her adoption papers said. I didn't even know until after we were home.

    Pit bulls in my coop!!

I know if that happened to me I'd just release my pit bull on those two. She's crazy protective of what's ours. Glad I have the dark side with me. I'm sorry to hear about your loss sadly people with no responsibility get great dogs and let them do as they will with no rules or responsibility...

    My first house

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes. I took the day off for medical reasons and decided to use part of that time to work on the coop. I now have 4 nesting boxes and space for 4 more, but not sure if I'll need them all. I also added perches using fallen trees and scrap wood and fenced the...
