    Seal Fault? Genesis 1588 Hova-Bator

Since it's still running with 2 goose eggs in it, I just took a look. I think it's the seal around the glass window. Could I just remove the window, clear both sides, and use silicon to re-caulk/re-stick it?

    Seal Fault? Genesis 1588 Hova-Bator

Was it hard to install? The motor works fine, it seems. Could I just re-seal everything?

    Seal Fault? Genesis 1588 Hova-Bator

Yes, but I've probably done 12 hatches! I see you can buy the replacement parts, or juct buy a new "top". Has anyone done that?

    Seal Fault? Genesis 1588 Hova-Bator

HI! I've successfully used my Genesis 1588 for three years. This time, the windows were fogged up (humidity at 52%) and most of the time I would have to pressdown on the space above the temp/humidity to move enough of the foggy moisture to see the gauge. Is the seal going bad? What to do? I...

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

I have two of these units, and have used them about ten times since purchased a few years ago. Never any problem, and chicks love them! Use press n seal (by glad clingwrap) to cover them as once the chicks start hopping on top of it, they get messy. That way when you clean, you just rip off the...

What are your five favorite breeds and why

My favorites of those breeds that I've tried out: 1. Blue/Splash Marans: Non-flighty heritage birds, great egg color, dual-purpose 2. Crested Cream Legbar: Can't beat the blue eggs! 3. Marans x CCL = crested Olive egger with great personalities 4. Bantam Cochins (Candy corn is my favorite...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

My animals all roam on 1/2 acre together, although at night the chickens go in one lock up and the geese locked in their own. I'm keeping an eye out...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

That's what I'm worried about. Do geese get to sexual maturity at 6 months? They were originally purchased to go to freezer camp, but I was liking them...until this incident! They mostly hang out with my goats.

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I have a trio of six month-old Pilgrim geese. I saw the male take hold of one of the chickens by her back end and hold on as she tried to get away. Then the two females tried to bite her and the hen was trying to pull away. I went to intervene, but they saw me coming and let go. I've never seen...

The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

Hi, Do you have any CCL and Bantam cochin eggs ready to go? My grape harvest is over and I'd like to set eggs on the 21st October. I like the bantam cochins for the kids who visit and the CCL I cross with my Marans roosters to make OE, so would love 4-6 of each, if you have them? Please PM me...

Review by 'dldolan' in article 'Nest Boxes; why do we make a sitting hens job so difficult?'

Thanks for putting your observations down. It has caused me to re-evaluate how I let the hens sit on eggs, and your points are well made. I see know I never thought to put all my observations into one thoughts process about what would work better. Thank you for doing that!

And yes, all roosters get a game bird booster and de-parasitized before egg collection season. Always have free choice oyster shell out all year. Sigh.

Thanks. Only one hatched. Same issue as last time--it pips then doesn't get any further than making a dime-sized hole in 24 hours. Starts to shrink wrap. We helped it. Not trying this any more, sadly. Our Don Juan is 3 years old now, and my Marans have super thick shells, but hatch so much more...

Back on to see what people are saying about hatching rates. Set 18 eggs and only 4 are developing, with 2 more as quitters by day 12. Boys are shooting blanks most of the time, it seems... Such a bummer.

    Releasing goslings outside

Can I join in with questions? I just brought home three, 2-week old Pilgims. They are in the garage with a brooder light for now. I have the same temps, more or less, as Lrosell31. I have a 4' x 7' mini-coop that I usually use for broody hens, next door to the chickens ready for them in a few...

Comment by 'dldolan' in item 'Marans'

Hi, I raise Marans and often keep a smaller broiler hen (the larger ones will die if left to grow out, so I often use the slow-grow meat birds) to breed with the Marans rooster for meat. The cross is slightly slower growing, but the meat is very good. Dawn

I think my original hatch from 14 eggs (and 90% of my Marans hatched that same time, same incubator) 3? 4? years ago was 4 boys, 2 girls. Then I hatched 2 more females, kept the only dude without a crooked keel. Having set 8 batches of eggs over the past two years now, getting just 2 more...
