Sorry for the late reply. It started one day about 3 weeks ago now. They are more apparent in the afternoon. As to severity I am am watching to detect a pattern but it may be worsening I suspect. He walks a bit stiffly when having a bout. He doesnt seem to be bothered.

I think it is unlikely she'll take them on. Watch and be prepared to remove them. They can end up being squashed or neglected. Did something happen to cause her to abandon the eggs that late in the peice? Just for future learning...All of mine have been hen raised...nature takes its course...
