    For 27 years I was a stay at home mom. Six years ago my last child graduated from high school and I got a job as a secretary at a university in the microbiology department.

    Just leave Mom and baby alone. She keeping her baby warm. As to feeding, from what I've read on the posts of other people, the baby doesn't usually eat for a day or so. By the way, congratuations!

    I have used baking soda successfully in my house. I make a barrier across the door opening or at the point that they are getting in. I sprinkle it right from the box. I don't know how effective it would be around chickens.

    Very nice baskets PeeWee. It's very hard to make a lid that fits well on the basket (At least for me!) I like the pine cone on the lid and the setting for the pictures is perfect for that type of basket.

    I also love reading. Harry Potter series, Jean Auel, Clive Cussler, Steve Alten, How-to, Mary Stewart, Emily Loring (early romance author, very clean reading, they're lucky if they hold hands, but they take place right before World War II until about 1960. The author passed away about 1980.)

    What to do with all these chicken feathers?? (craft ideas??)

    If you have any long wing or tail feathers you could make quill pens. We have "Pioneer Day" at a local park and I have demonstrated making quill pens and black walnut ink. It really works! It also seems to improve penmanship. (Can't figure that one out.)

    I cook my bacon in the oven. It turns out chewy and evenly cooked. YUM! If you cook it longer it does get crispy.
