Hello everyone. My peahen laid 2 eggs, then one very soft egg then stopped over 4 weeks ago. She is the same coop with our 2 males. Last year, when they turned 2, I had to separate them during mating season because of the fighting. This year, they are generally civil to each other, while the...
I missed this message until now. We are continuing to take care of our ducks and 3 peafowls. We added a geese to the duck flock in the hopes of deterring foxes. We also added a new coop (new to us) where we can separate our Cayuga ducks for mating. We also extended a side coop to separate...
My female duck Sandy has been limping which happens sometimes to a few of them once in a while. Few days resting and they are always back to normal. I even separated my dominating male, lovingly named the AHole but also goes by Ferd, because I felt he was the reason (mating season coming full...
Hi! We are located in New Brunswick Canada and it's calling for -28 c Friday during the night. Should we be concerned for our peafowls? They have a 9 x 11 shed attached to their coop but it is not insulated. We are thinking about hanging a heating dish but wonder if it's necessary.
Thank you! I removed him right after your comments. We found another egg today at the same spot. Hopefully it's the last. Wondering why they are doing this? Do they know it's not viable anymore and pushing it out of the nest?
My females Harlequin and now Cayuga have been laying on their eggs for two weeks approximately. First time for both of them and for us too as duck owners. They are in their own coop with the Cayuga male. This morning I found two caved in eggs in the the front corner of the coop. What could...
Thank you for all the responses and great information. I'm trying to determine what is in the best interest for my peacock. I will definitely seek our veterinarian's opinion and go through the suggestions provided here. I agree with @KsKingBee and use sedation and any options to ensure there...
Ok, it was scabbed over quite some time ago, there didn't seem to be much damage when the nail was lost. So do you think there is anything that can be done for his curled back toe to stop the limping in your experienced opinion?
Thank you everyone for your response. The nail fell off a while ago and I verified at the time for any blood/wounds and everything seemed fine. It looked healed but with your comments, I'm wondering if it's not? If it was infected, would I see any visuals such as fluids coming from it, gash, etc?
My indian blue peacock (almost 1 year old) lost his back toe nail a while ago. We noticed he started limping and upon closer view, his back toe is curled inward (see picture). It's not getting better, not sure what I can do to help and should I be worried this can lead to serious problems...
