My 16-week brown leghorn pullet has primarily kept her right eye closed since Sunday. I have seen her open it, so it isn’t swollen shut, but she doesn’t keep it open for long. I haven’t identified any splotches or discharge, but she does sometimes crane her head back in what appears to be an...
We have only had them for two weeks and they haven't had any deworming to my knowledge. I haven't seen her specific poop since we have started monitoring the situation.
I just noticed it about an hour ago. How long would you suggest separating her out, and are there specific characteristics of her BM that would be an indicator of another problem?
Our 18 week barred rock pullet is exhibiting some behavior that I thought I would check in with experts about. She is craning her neck and constantly making a “coo’ing” type noise with occasional noise louder noise (you can hear the louder noise at the 3-second mark..the coo’ing is gentle, but...
I was considering setting up a second container of Dubia roaches to accommodate feeding the chickens some roaches as a treat. I dropped in some of extra full grown male roaches into the run yesterday and there was definitely some competition for the bugs.
I was also considering setting up a...
I really hope so too. I personally wouldn't mind having a rooster, but my space is limited, and my neighbors would likely take issue with the crowing......plus I am technically not allowed to have one.
Thank you all! I might have to update one of those numbers though. It looks like I may have to either find a home for a cockrel/rooster or send him to freezer camp. What do you usually do with male chickens you can't keep?
Since my last post, unfortunately, revealed that one of my new birds is a Cockrel, I figured I would check with the experts on the rest of my new flock. I THINK they are pullets, but my chicken experience is approximately 4 days now..so I figured I would ask here.
What do you think of these...
His comb is larger and a darker color than the other easter egger. It was the reason for my initial concern. I can post a picture of the other one for comparison later this afternoon.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- I am brand new to chickens. My wife had them when she was younger, but this is our first foray into backyard chicken raising.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- We just received 5 last weekend.
(3) What breeds...
Hey folks! I’m super new here, but I just got my first set of young chickens this weekend. My wife and I are fairly excited about the whole situation.
I think all of them are pullets, but I am not sure about one of them. This one is a 14 week old easter egger (I think the breed is correct)...
