I have been looking around at people's chicks and there are a lot of these reddish ones. It seems this is commonly sold breed. Anyone else thinking Rhode Island Red? Anyone have a good link to read more about them? I realize that they are very productive egg layers but I'm wondering about their...
Thank you for your input, Wfpendragon & XxMingirlxX. I will get more close up pictures of the comb on my birds and repost for better insight. Thanks again!
Wow...very nice pictures. You have a beautiful bird. I can't weigh in as I don't have a lot of experience. I am a first timer and have an easter egger that I think is a male. My only one. Very disappointed. Mine has a much longer tail. Yours looks more female than mine. But again, I don't have...
Thank you both! I thought the EE did look like a roo too. The SLW just seems to "act" like a roo. I just have this gut feeling. How often are gut feelings right for newbies? :-)
I am new to the chicken game so I can't offer any assistance. However, I am interested to see what people say the breed is for the top chicks. I have some just like that and I was told that they were Buff Orpington, but I don't think that's true. Best of luck!
Your sentence started off pretty funny. I'm not sure if I would be happy about my husband picking up a chick at a gas station late at night. :-) If you could post a pic of the chick, then I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses.
Do you think these are roosters? Both are 4 weeks old. One is a SLW and the other is an EE.
Above is the EE and below is the SLW...
Thank you so much for your help! I'm a newbie so I don't know. Thank you for creating this thread and for helping us newbies! :-)
Huh! Well, I looked up RIR chicks and I think you could be right. I know that's a good breed of chicken but I really was hoping for some Buff Orpingtons. I guess that's what you get for dealing with people who don't know what they're selling. Thanks so much for your input! Anyone else think the...
Hi all! Can you tell me what breed you think I have. They were sold as sexed pullets and as Buff Orpington. But they are more red than buff and there are darker spots through the feathers. All pics below are of the same 2 chicks and all at 4 weeks of age. What do you think??
My chicks are 4 weeks old today. I think most of my chicks are female. However, I'm a newbie. But I have 2 that I have a gut feeling are male. Can you give me your opinions please?
Silver Laced Wyandotte 4 Weeks Old
SLW 4 Weeks old (same chick as above) The comb is pinker in person...
Hi Jenna, she's likely pregnant. Cats are very good at reproducing. As someone stated above, the gestation period for a cat is approximately 64 days or 9 weeks. She looks like she's getting bigger and closer to having the kittens. Keep her inside if you can so that she doesn't wander off...
Hi Cass, your post caught my eye because I'm the same as you. I've been a member for some time now, but as a lurker. I've finally taken the plunge and am actually an owner of chicks now! Yay!
Thanks for sharing your pics with me! Mine looks a lot like yours. I bought mine from a local hatchery that was set up at a feed store. There were people breathing down my neck in line behind me and I didn't have the chance to really talk to the man selling them. However, per the advertisement...
Hi Kekstrom, thanks for your input! Glad to hear that maybe this breed isn't as quick to feather out and that I can possibly still cross my fingers that this is a female. I really want it to be a girl so that I can keep her. Ever since I've looked around for chickens, that breed caught my eye...
The SLW is the one farthest to the right. No tail feathers yet.
Hi! I'm new to keeping chickens and I'm excited! I have 2 Black sex link, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Barred Rock, 1 EE, and 1 SLW. They are all 12 days old. I have always wanted a SLW but I'm thinking that its a rooster and they aren't...
Thank you for your answer. Per the info that I've come across on the internet, they lead you to believe that you will know the sex by looking at the feathers. So, then the above birds could be female and I just need to be patient? I guess that I need to wait to see the comb, wattles, and tail...
