Do they make Med starter in a crumble or a pellet? what happens if My laying hens get into it?

Check your feed tag. It will list the medication(s) in the feed. The main one is a coccidiostat and will not affect the eggs. If there are antibiotics In the feed, withdrawal times will be stated on the tag.

    Feed with no grit?

That is correct. As long as they aren't eating whole seeds/grains, grit is not needed. If they are free ranged, they will find any grit they might need. Check the calcium percentage on the bag. They need 3 percent. A commercial layer feed should have adequate calcium.

When to process after Sulmet treatment?

Quote: Please reread the label for withdrawal times. Sulmet is not to be given to egg layers if the eggs are for human consumption. Otherwise it's a 10 day withdrawal period for meat birds for slaughter.

Are turkeys fragile or did I just get a run of bad luck?

Quote: My 27 Porter poults that died the first week, were eating and drinking. They would be fine one minute and dead the next. Is that what your finding happened? The poults arrived looking very good. They were energetic and chirping to the point of driving us crazy! Slowly I would find...

JUST to be sure im right!!

Look down the back of their necks. Hens tend to have a small line of feathers, while toms will be bare. At 4 months it can be hard to tell just from pics.

What To Do With "Left-Over" Show Broilers?

Quote: The rule of thumb is you need a minimum of 6 birds to get 1 showable bird. In order to be competitive in the market show ring the pen of birds should match exactly in terms of confirmation. we raise 30 to get a pen of 4(take 4 , show 3). The best bird (ie largest, nicest breast, legs...

    Muscovy Ducks

Quote: How good of a hatch do yours usually have? Last two were 18 and 20 babies. Maybe 2 or 3 eggs left in each nest. So, right around 90% hatched. Wanted to add, mine will cover the eggs if they aren't ready to set. I do believe it helps the eggs stay viable.

    Muscovy Ducks

Down in the nest is a good sign. I know my girls won't sit until they have at least 20 eggs in the pile.

    Call Ducks baby help!

I use a couple of silkie hens for my hatching duties. I swear that those girls would sit on a pile of rocks till they hatch. Always take the babies after they dry off, it's not so much the older ones attack them(which they will do), but more to keep them from getting squashed.

    Signature Poultry........Ad was on craigslist

Hmmm, a breeder that lives in California but runs a hatchery in New Mexico? That's a heck of a commute! Grandpa always said; "If you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras." I know Privett is located in NM. so I wouldn't say he's lying. Just not being all that forthcoming. With that extensive...

Raising Meat Turkeys for 4-H...advice please!

...They are very fragile, much more than chicks and need protection from drafts. Also start the heat lamp close enough to the shaving to get it 90* directly under it. Reduce the temp 5* each week. If they get chilled, they will pile up and smother. Leave a low power (25-40 watt) light on 24...

Which would you pick..Red Bourbon, Royal Palm, Wild Rio or White?

At best this is a purely subjective topic. Pick the ones you like. They all will do fine for you. I've had BR, RP, Narragansett and White Hollands. Currently have a trio of WH that are going into their 3rd year. Outside all the time with small boxes for them to get out of the weather. Really...

New Call Duck Colors... what do you think?

This is just my opinion, take it for what ever it is worth to you. Their heads are all wrong, their bills much too long/big and their legs too long. They just look quite large and not compact for calls. I would concentrate on type and conformation to the standard first, get the color right...

    Should I get all males?

I can answer for fighting among BBWs. Yes they will fight. Right around 15-16 weeks is when they start fighting for keeps. Sexing is not 100% accurate. We have received a hen or two in our batches of birds. The hens do not grow out as fast as the toms. At 16 weeks a tom will dress out right at...
