    Cheap Coop Ideas?

Thanks. Chicken math always comes into play. I started with 4 last summer and now have 41 . They are so much fun to just sit and watch (and you get eggs)!

    Cheap Coop Ideas?

Pallets are awesome! I've now built two coops and a goat barn with pallets. Here's a pic of my newest (and the goat barn next door):

Chicken coop directly over compost bin?

I just picked up a coop with a slide out bottom. Pull out the board, and all the plop falls down. Then I scoop it up and give it away to those who want it for their garden. I know you're not supposed to use fresh poo in the garden because of the high nitrogen content. I wonder if that would also...

    HELP!! Major pecking order problems!

Hot sauce on an open wound? No thanks! I would isolate the mean girl(s) if you can for a few days and when you reintroduce them, the pecking order will be different and they will no longer be at "the top".

    Only a few eggs

Egg production is directly related to daylight. This time of year, egg production naturally dips. I only ge about 4 per day from a total of 39 hens.

    Window, or No Window?

So, I'm rebuilding my coop. Chicken math has more than doubled my flock and now I/they need more room. I was considering putting in a plexiglass window to let natural light in and so i can peek in & check on the gals. I was talking to a friend the other night and they mentioned that it's best to...

Why is my Rooster crowing during the day?

I have 3 roosters and they often seem to have crow competitions! Roos crow all the time, that's just what they do!

Total Newbie - Coop Help Please

That's pretty nice. I don't think you could move the run from one side to the other since there's only 1 door. I think you're right about the lumber thickness, it may not hold pntoo long if it's too thin. The plexiglass is genius! Makes cleaning so much easier. The only modification I would do...

Total Newbie - Coop Help Please

I would go with an A-frame tractor. There are lots of ideas on this site that you could take to a handyman or carpenter to have built. Check out Craigslist for carpenters that are looking for work. You may even be able to find a used tractor or coop. Welcome to he addiction!

Could my Girls be "on strike"?

I have a flock of 16 hens who give us about 4 eggs a day (it's winter & I don't put a light in the coop). Recently, I acquired another 22 hens and built a separate run for them because I didn't want to integrate them right away. The new girls laid 4 eggs the first day and 1 the second! I was...

    Is this rooster a Dorking?

I'm not sure what this roo is. I've scanned BYC for the breeds and a Dorking is the closest I could come to. Any input is appreciated. He's the guy at the top of this photo.

The CHICKEN MATH Contest- Who has the worst case?

My name is Eric and I have a chicken addiction. Here's my story: I started with 4 hens. Things were going along fine and I was content with my little flock. We went in with our neighbors on 4 baby chicks and split them. Now I'm at 6. I found a listing on Craigslist where a lady was selling...

My hens comb has a cut

I came home to the same thing today . I isolated her so the other girls won't attack. I'll check on her in the morning and use the cornstarch if I need to. It looks horrible because she's a bantam leghorn and all white. Thanks for the advice! Gotta love BYC!
