Mike,
Thanks for all the info. That's a massive help. I'm glad that your experience of Khaki Campbells match (and possibly exceed) my expectations.
Ferdinand, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try and find a local poultry auction. I'm glad to hear they might not be too expensive. If...
Thank you both for the input. Khaki Campbells appear to be what I'm after. Now I just need to source a supplier and decide whether to get them now or wait until Spring.
Thanks Amiga.
It was really advice on breed I was after as a beginner. All of those stickies have some really good info but I wanted someone who has experience to let me know if Khaki Campbells would be a good fit for me or if they had another recommendation. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough...
Hi All,
I'm completely new to ducks but am thinking of getting some. Reasons would be for eggs and to put a dent in the slug population here which is monstrous.
We have been doing some research online and are thinking about getting Khaki Campbells. (Probably just a trio or a trio+ at this...
Potentially dumb question but every day is a school day and I have been used to Cream Legbar which can be sexed from Day 1 by down pattern so please forgive my ignorance:-
Does this only work for certain types of chicken or should it give an indication across the board?
Hi All,
I am currently using the Brinsea Mini Advance and, while I have no complaints - it does exactly what it claims to - I am starting to find a maximum capacity of 7 eggs and no read out of humidity a little constricting.
I may build my own at some point but, right now, I think I'll...
Yes,
Perfectly normal for the chicks to rest for about a day after pipping. They need to absorb the yolk and rest up before they start to zip I believe. this last hatch I had one take 28-29 hours from pip to zip. Just keep the incubator locked down and let them do their thing.
Good luck...
My first hatching of bought in Cream Legbar eggs back in May was exactly the same result. I have just hatched the offspring of one of them (and the 2 CLB hens I already had) though and
Yay! The flock continues!
Don't give up. You now have one half (well, four halves) of what you need.
Also, depending where you are and what breed they are, it might be a seasonal thing. My Cream Legbars are in moult and with the days getting shorter and the weather getting worse, I probably won't see too many eggs from them until Spring now.
Wow. I had to google them and they are gorgeous. I hope you do get a hen and a roo. You could use some better luck.
I just got some bantams (snap purchase when I saw the parents) but they're just Mille Fleur Barbu d'Uccles, nothing as fancy as your cochins.
I say go for more eggs. You...
They're Cream Legbars. The first ones I've tried hatching from my own flock. Handy that they can be sexed as soon as they're dry and lovely blue eggs too (although that takes a little longer).
