Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Thank you Ingrid_N. It is doing a fine job and the hens are safe and happy. We have new ideas already for expansion and changes as we incorporate it and hens into our growing (gardening and budding orchard). LOVEING IT!!! Things will likely never be done ;)

Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Update: We ended up with a mix of 10 hens. We selected a mix of pairs of three different breeds. We'll likely expand a bit next spring. 2 Rhode Island Reds. The most skittish of the breeds. 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks. Best characters. They never fail to greet me as I collect the eggs. 6...

@Debbie292d: Spoke with my son today; early mother's day breakfast gathering for my wife. Anyway, he wants the Ameraucana (blue eggs). Wife remains open and thanks you for your suggestions.

Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Thank you all for the warm welcome messages. I tried to reply personally. Apologies if I happened to miss yours. Honestly I became a bit lost in the thread presentation. I'll get better when I am more familiar with the site.

Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Thank you @Debbie292d. I appreciate the suggestions. I'll pass them along. Although, I believe at least one (my son) has selected some nearly black colored breed (think it lays colored eggs - blue?) - I can't recall exactly. I don't see him daily. I'll note it next time we talk and let you...

Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Thanks @DobieLover. Sorry to here that your egg glassing did not work out. I hope to have better luck. Looking to avoid the freezer. I wonder though, your experience may explain why none of my grandparents ever mentioned it. My great grandparents often spoke of the great depression era. Tough...

Hello from Sunny Nor. Cal. (Sacramento Suburbs)

Thank you @GirlsHuntToo. Your 'handle' reminds me of a summer in my youth when I worked hard to hone my shooting skills only to be outshot (points wise) by my girlfriend of the time - with my own rifle (open sights). I didn't even know she could shoot. LOL. Humbling .
