Thank you Ingrid_N. It is doing a fine job and the hens are safe and happy. We have new ideas already for expansion and changes as we incorporate it and hens into our growing (gardening and budding orchard).Welcome to BYC! I'm sure your coop will turn out great!!
Thank you for the update! Congrats! Getting first eggs is so eggciting!Update: We ended up with a mix of 10 hens. We selected a mix of pairs of three different breeds. We'll likely expand a bit next spring.
We're averaging about 3 eggs per day. I believe the Barred Rocks are laying - possibly one or more of the Rhode Island Reds. Although I can't be sure. Since we have no green to blue eggs, I presume the Americana's aren't yet producting.
- 2 Rhode Island Reds. The most skittish of the breeds.
- 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks. Best characters. They never fail to greet me as I collect the eggs.
- 6 Americana's (from black through to nearly white pairs). Nice birds. Not as skittish as the Reds but not as friendly as the Barred Rocks.
We lost one chick, an Americana - as I recall.
