    My Barred Rocks did fine up here in Maine this past winter and it was very cold. They are very friendly but I think that has a lot to do with how they are treated. Our girls are definitely pets and we interact with them daily.

  18. Our winterized chicken run. We had clear corrugated panels put on including a roof to give the girls ... Betsy, Roxy, Penny, Dolly, Bonney the rocks; Madeline, Claire, the mixed breeds and Brewster the Rooster protection from the wind & snow. The panels are removable but for now give them a nice greenhouse effect with the low sun until spring comes during this very cold Maine winter. Their house is small so this gives them room to stretch their drumsticks. They also get to free range when they please with a watchful eye for hawks and eagles.
