    trampoline chicken coop - update

We plan on it being portable, but with the weight of it, I can't see the wind moving this thing anywhere. With that said, it wouldn't be hard to anchor it down.

Umm... just... ummm... If reincarnation were true just decided what I want to come back as... one of your chickens. **in best Ben Stein voice** Wow.

    trampoline chicken coop - update

Thanks. I did try my best to use what I could. Unfortunately, I could find any used fencing on freecycle or the free section of craigslist, or I'd have done that as well. One last pic of the girls in their new home. (faces are blurred to protect the identity of the innocent)

    trampoline chicken coop - update

Here's the finished coop prior to the initial visit by Phil. Everything here is recycled with the exception of the wire and the screws. Here is their "training" roost.

My computer has decided to stop holding a grudge, and is letting me upload the pics now. Give me a few minutes... **eyeballs CPU suspiciously** It must want something.

    trampoline chicken coop - update

So I moved the girls in and all was fine. They loved it. They hopped in and out the window, and ran and flew at each other and had a good old time. At night I turned on their light and they all went in the coop and I shut the window and all was right with the world for two days. and then...

...of the upload page. ( This thing has a mind of its own sometimes. If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was mad at me for something.) **glances nervously at CPU** ... Naaah. Pychotic computers aside, the build was actually pretty fun. It was nowhere near as light as I was expecting it...

The dumb question for the day..hehehehehe

My wife got a 55 gallon plastic drum to make a composter out of. I'm not sure exactly how, but she's good with that kind of thing.

I HATE installing Hardware Cloth!!! HELP!

I am so glad I read this post! I am about to run the hardware cloth over the front section of my trampoline coop, and I was thinking "Oh this will be the easy part" I would have looked like I got into a fight with a gang of angry alley cats! Long sleeves and gloves it is!! Fortunately I dont...

    trampoline chicken coop - update

When using metal for building every screw adds strength, you might want to put a 2 tek screw at each joint of the trampoline frame, and screw all cross members where its possible, It will take out most if not all of the give and flexing of the frame. I have screwed the joint together, and the...

    trampoline chicken coop - update

Here is the beginning framing. The vent is an old gable vent, the wood is all recycled from old buildings. My only cost so far has been the wire, the screws, and a tarp to cover the tools as I'm working. Total cost under 200 so far. I'm hoping to keep it there! This is with the front of the...

    trampoline chicken coop - update

Well, here is the frame-up for the start of the coop/tractor. I worked on it quite a bit yesterday and got a lot more framing done. I'll post those shortly. The suggestion for the tak screws was spot on, they are working great for connecting to the frame! Thanks.

can i let my baby chicks roam outside a little?

You'll definitely need some kind of fence to rein them in. They may not be too fast to catch at this age, but if they head in different directions, and run when you try to catch them, you'll have a pickle of a time trying to round them all up. Then wait till the FLYING starts! We have an old...

my baby can fly?!?? What the heck!

One of my EE chicks is named George because she is so curious. We have a hinged lid on the top of the brooder to keep them in, as we have 2 cats, but everytime we open it to change water,, feed, bedding etc... she flies up to the top edge and tries to make an escape.

As soon as I get out of the "you might be a spammer if..." stage, I will post pictures of my progress so far. The pipe hangers are a good idea though and would work perfectly to run a wood beam over the pipe to screw the siding onto at the top. Thanks!

2 Step Kids Playhouse on CraigsList (Tampa)

Methinks a spammer hath snuck in. They only have one other post, and it's about playhouses as well.

    Scared!

Are silkies any different from other chicks? I use a 250 watt light with my 4 week olds, but I have it elevated a good 2 feet above the brooder, plus I have the half of the brooder away from the light with an overhang for them to get under for shade if they get too hot. Bedding seems to be a...

when to safely move chicks outdoors?

They are about half feathered right now, still in that gawky/cute "teenage" stage. I don't know if they will be FULLY feathered in 2 weeks, but they will be really close. I have 2 (one new Hampshire red, and one black sex-linked) that seem to be growing their feathers in faster than the others...

New to all this. Could use some help.

Well, lightbulb glass is a lot thinner than window pane, so I guess unless I have a really strong chicken, they wont break it. Now I just have to figure out how to do the other 250 things I need to figure out!
