Egg Laying Issues -- Stress or Lack of Daylight?

Thank you 🖤 No, unfortunately I had contacted several vets that care for ducks BEFORE I got the ducklings and they all said that they would see my girls as patients but then once I got them and started having medical issues they all said that they actually weren't taking new patients at this...

Egg Laying Issues -- Stress or Lack of Daylight?

This is my first year with ducks and so far it's been *pretty* smooth sailing, knock on wood! My girls just turned 7 months old and have been laying since they were about 5-6 months. At first a few of them had some kinks to work out with their egg laying systems, and switching them over from...

New layer has egg yolk coming out of her vent

Oh no, poor girl! Sorry to hear it's still not resolved but glad you've got her a vet appointment to figure it all out! I've offered oyster shell too buy none seen interested in it. I feel like now I'm just paranoid watching this one duck to see what what is going to come out of her! Ever since...

New layer has egg yolk coming out of her vent

Is she doing well now? Was it just a one-time thing? My duck just started laying eggs less than a week ago and so far had pretty much consistently laid two per day. This morning I watched her lay two eggs in the coop and then about fifteen minutes later she laid a third egg IN THE POOL... And...

    Duclair vs Pekin.

I don't have any experience with Pekins but my Duclair is my absolute favorite duck, hands down. She has the best, BIGGEST personality -- she honestly has more personality than some people I know -- and she's a little lovebug. She's bigger than my other ducks (she's a bit of a chunky monkey...

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

Oof! Yeah, I can imagine... I guess I'd rather have my wallet hurt for now than have my back hurt for years to come 😊 Between the price of the 9 gauge chain link fencing material and hardware cloth, in the lengths I'm planning on making this monstrosity, I'm about to have a mini panic attack 😂...

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Holy smokes!! Thanks for sending the link to the article, there's a whole lot of good info in there!

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

You're so right about the chiropractor bills 🤣😂🤣 We decided to make the peak of the roof close to 7 feet tapering down to the side walls. It should give me a good amount of headroom in the middle of the run and I'm pretty sure I'll be about to rake or shovel out anything close to the side walls...

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

We thought about that too -- my back already isn't that great and I'm not even that old yet 😂 -- and decided to have the peak of the roof be about 7 feet in the center tapering down to about 4 feet at the sides. And yeah, solar would've been ideal if it worked for bears but I'm DEFINITELY...

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

Thank you for all your helpful info! I'll definitely be avoiding the solar charger and going with the more powerful charger... Luckily I have a TSC right down the road from me! I'm going tho go check out the charger this week. My dad said that he'll help me run some conduit out from the house...

9 gauge vs 11.5 gauge chain link... and bears?

Hey everyone! I've got 6 ducks that just turned 8 weeks old and I'm about to start building their run. We're making it larger than originally planned because my dreams of letting them free range during the day (while I'm outside) have been dashed by a few pesky and persistent neighborhood cats...

    Video of Honking Duckling

They all started doing it more and more as they got older, my ducklings will be five weeks old tomorrow & are all doing really well! So I wouldn't be concerned about the honking sound if I were you! I thought their voices were supposed to charge much later but I guess some ducklings are more...

    Duckling Barely Able to Walk

Congratulations! That'll be an exciting weekend! Ducklings are so much fun 😆 I'm not too worried about overdosing them on it, I know it's possible but I think they'd need a whole lot more niacin than the amount I'm giving them... My nutritional yeast only has 46mg niacin per 1/4 cup and I only...

    Duckling Behavior & Health Questions

I've definitely noticed the sneezes getting less frequent since I've been giving them more of a mash/soup... I give them their crumbles dry overnight (because I'm afraid of it going bad or getting moldy if it's wet and left out for 8 hours) and I notice more sneezes when they have it dry, so now...

    Duckling Barely Able to Walk

Hi! I ended up having more ducklings come down with the same symptoms a few days later so I decided to treat them all for a niacin deficiency because I'm not sure if they were getting enough from their flock raiser crumbles. I am giving them about 1 ml each of High Level Vitamin B Complex (by...

    Duckling Behavior & Health Questions

Thank you so much!! It was very helpful! They definitely try to eat anything and everything, and a few seem to pig out on the grit, but I'm trying to trust in then that they won't overdo it. I noticed that the sneezing goes way down when I wet their food... I think they were inhaling the...

    Video of Honking Duckling

Yes, they have a deep dish of water that they dunk their heads in throughout the day. I take it out overnight because if I don't they knock it over and soak their bedding but otherwise they have access to deep water.

    Video of Honking Duckling

Cinnamon (Minnie) is my two week old Golden 300 duckling. The past few days I've heard her voice change from a little peep like her friends into more of a honk. I'm not sure if this is normal or something to be concerned about. I just took a video tonight (she's the duckling underneath the heat...

    Duckling Behavior & Health Questions

I offered my girls about a teaspoon too, they did better with not chowing down so much on it today like they did the other day but I'm still not super comfortable leaving a bunch in with them because a few of them treat it like food. I'm hoping some knowledgeable duck people respond to let us...
