I have to say, our raccoons had left our chickens alone. I think probably from them roosting at night in the tree that maybe it helped them get the guineas? Either way that is a big ol that SUCKS. Geesh. I'd be furious because I'm with you, at least take the entire bird! Aside from your husband...

Thank you all! Sorry it took so long to reply! lol I completely kept forgetting to come back and reply.
I appreciate the info and Sharol for providing such insight, I actually have a better understanding of the breeds when people talk about their own...

Thank you. And thank you for the great information. Yeah, the Austra's and Maran's are really gorgeous birds and I'm considering those too. I think one reason I've wanted a RIR, was that I think they're gorgeous, but I am seeing they tend toward temperamental (which ours were (the buff...

Thank you so much Brahma's are pretty gorgeous birds. Just looked them up. Looking at Austra's as well since I love that black feathering. (I love crows for that reason too. lol) I'm having issues finding a lot of people selling anything other than RIR's around WA. Mostly, I'm looking...

Thanks! I've seen those in catalogs and such a while back, but unless I buy them from a place like McMurray, I'm not sure I've seen anyone sell them anywhere near WA state, where I live. Where'd you get yours from?
So I'm leaning toward possibly the Maran, Australorp, or Ameraucana (one), and then one RIR and one BR possibly. Would their personalities get along or what?

Thanks so much for the reply, and help. We wont be getting any males at all. We live in a neighborhood and I dont think our neighbors would much appreciate the noise :p

Thanks so much for the reply. Wow, that first picture is a beautiful female! I dont think Ive ever heard...
...looking for a winter hardy bird (just in case we have a bad winter, though in WA, we don't usually get too cold, but last yr we'd gotten down to 14*!), excellent egg-layer, and perhaps one which is a little quieter. Although the latter is not a problem. Our Buff mixes went back and forth...
...looking for duckies And I have fallen for the Muscovies, but can't afford too much. My bday is coming up on the 15 this month and they are going to be my bday present
P.S. Your ducks--checked your link--are adorable, especially those babies, oh my gosh!
**This thread is over a year...
I'm wondering if those have even tried eating them? Before iamcuriositycat posted her info about eggs, I just honestly thought of them as duck eggs and went ew! Normal first thought having never eaten them before of course, but maybe if they hadn't tried them, it's only because they don't know...
iamcuriositycat Oh okay, I will keep that in mind. I'm not TOO concerned with ever getting pets that are older and not having them as "lovable" pets though. Nearly every one of our animals we've ever gotten--whether rabbits, goats, chickens, birds, dogs, cats, etc.--have generally been pets that...
duckboatprincess Thank you so much. I will check out that thread.
iamcuriositycat Really? Oh that's pretty awesome. I don't think I've ever eaten a ducks egg in my life. I'm a huge fan of cooking so that's pretty cool that they do so well in that. So can not all males be kept together? Do I...
Ah okay. That's good to hear.
I just found something for two FREE Cayuga Ducks that are male down the street from where I live. Anyone heard of them? They make good pets? I can't find too much info about them.
duckboatprincess Thanks for the reply! Ah. Okay. Now I understand why they can't fly. Thank you so much Not sure about wanting egg layers or not, but I will think about that. Pekins and rouens? I'll look those up.
streemers thanks for the reply That's great to hear. Yeah with our chickens...
So we have decided that we would like to get some ducks and I have some questions that I guarantee are beginner questions :p I've never owned ducks before but we would like to get some eventually and I was curious about some things. I will apologize right away if ANY of these questions have been...

Hey horsejody, no, Amber isn't a Lhasa Apso. She's a mix breed. Pomeranian, Pekignese and Poodle. They do look similiar though don't they? Way too cute!
A great photo with her little "chipmunk" look. You can see her two little teeth in her mouth, always reminds me of a little...

That would be Irish Spring correct? I've never heard of that, but hey, that sounds like a great idea! Our raccoons have been enjoying wandering around our water pipes. I heard that ammonia in bottles--so they can smell it--works and they hate the smell so we've placed bottles around...
Yay for Brooke.
You could see it coming the way that when he hugged Christa throughout the show, he already had his mind made up. He would hug Christa tightly and it looked as if he was trying to remember her and he'd close his eyes real tight like he didn't want hurt her, but knew after that...
