    Chicken pink eye?

I checked online and TSC has a product called Duramycin. The guy said that would work well for the problem I described. Has anybody used this for treating chicks?

    Chicken pink eye?

I'm going to stop by Rural King and/or TSC tonight to see if they have anything. Any suggestions on a particular med to look for? Is there a good overall antibiotic to try, at least one that the store would carry? The chick is still in the same boat - left eye clear and right eye swollen &...

    Chicken pink eye?

Quote: I don't believe so. It was harder to tell this morning due to the ointment we put on last night, but from what I recall on Saturday it seemed like it was dry. We had a hard time getting the dried clump of the discharge off of his eyelid. Otherwise he seems to be doing fine, but he is...

    Chicken pink eye?

Checked on the chick this morning. His left eye looks good and it didn't close up over night. The right eye is still giving him trouble, though. I put a bit of eye ointment on it last night and appears to have helped a little bit. It didn't close up completely over night, but he can only open...

    Chicken pink eye?

Quote: Thanks. I hope the little guy will be ok, but I'm more worried about it spreading to the rest of the chicks. We'll keep an eye on him and se what happens.

    Chicken pink eye?

I have some Milles Fleurs that hatched out this past Thursday. One of the chicks has been a little more unbalanced than the others. Starting yesterday it started to get some eye bugers. It has gotten to the point where its entire eye crusts over. With some drops and a q-tip we can get it out but...

    My Mille Fleur hatch

Quote: All Mille Fleur d'uccles. My goal was to get a good roo and a couple of hens to breed with another set of Millies that I have. Next year I'll be hatching like crazy.

    My Mille Fleur hatch

Looks like it's going to be 7 out of 9. Not bad for a first time hatch. All dried out: In their new home:

    *** AUGUST HATCH-A-LONG come join in ***

Posted in another thread, but here's some pics of my hatch. At the bottom is a link to a video I took of two hatching at the same time. Thanks to all those for the support and help in answering questions. Yay chickies! Moved over to the new home to finish drying out: If you're...

    My Mille Fleur hatch

Here's some pics of my first ever try at incubating. Have to say I love the Brinsea. It really is a set it and forget it (other than checking the water from time to time). I probably had close to 30 eggs initially and split them out between my Brinsea Mini and an old LG bator a friend gave us...

    *** AUGUST HATCH-A-LONG come join in ***

Quote: There are two stages to pipping- you are talking about external pipping, but the chicks can peep as soon as they breach the inner membrane: ie, pip internally. You would not see this pip because it happens a few days prior to the chick pipping externally. They pip internally when their...

Who Else Is Setting Their First Hatch? Hatch Along! ~UPDATES!!~

First timer incubating as well, but I'm about done. Got my first pip yesterday and can hear one chirpping away like mad. Should hopefully be seeing chickies tomorrow or Friday.

    *** AUGUST HATCH-A-LONG come join in ***

Got my first ever pip yesterday! Checked on it this morning and it's slightly larger, but can't see in quite yet. I think this was a transplant egg from the LG to the Brinsea (had one quitter on the Brinsea so I swapped it out). Noob question of the day: I have two eggs that were left in the...

Do momma hens w/chicks lay eggs?

Agree with the above, but it can take longer for her to start laying again. Ours seemed to have taken longer than 6 weeks to start laying again. We got so used to not checking for egg and then one day she wasn't out with the rest of the flock. Checked in her pen and sure enough...she was trying...

    House or garage for bator

House. I'm guessing you aren't lacking for heat given your location. The house will be a much more stable environment. Just keep the bator away from a window and/or vents.

Are these eggs dead? candling pics

If you look close enough you should also be able to see some fluttering of the heart. Remember that for the most part if they loose heat it doesn't mean they're done for. It'll just cause a delay in the eggs hatching.

***************will I get a baby bantam from my old rooster?*********

From what I remember the sperm from a roo can stay with the hen for up to two weeks. There's a good chance more than just that one egg will be from your previous roo.

Hatching Chicks -- THink I have a slight EMERGENCY

From what I've read on here the best thing to do is wrap him in a wet paper towel (use warm but not hot water) and leave him in the bator. That's about all you can do at this point and hope for the best. Good luck.

    eggs hatch.. i have qeustion

Don't panic just yet. What time of the day did you set the eggs, and what day was it? The clock should technically start when you set the eggs. If you set them at 6pm on a Friday then at 6pm the following friday it would have been 7 days. Did you have any issues with the temperature dipping...
