The eggs were sold to me as show quality! I don’t mind though, they’re the best little characters. I have a splash hen as well, I might see what happens if I breed her with Sola, could be a very interesting combination.
I’m not sure where Sola’s parents came from, they came from a mixed silkie pen but I think something else might have gotten into the pen as they have regular combs! Sola’s dad also has blue tips on his wings and his tail feathers which I think is unusual for silkies? I’m not sure!
It’s not actually very hot to touch, it’s the same temp it was for other chicks and this never happened. Yes, I hatched them myself and they all hatched on the 4th, so 2 weeks and 1 day for me here in Ireland. Thanks so much! I’ll check my pharmacy, if not I’ll get from Amazon.
I have three polish bantams, they’ve all gotten a burn on their heads from the heat plate overnight despite it being raised according to their growth, I’ve put it up again since the burns showed up 3 days ago. I cleaned them daily with saline & I am spraying their heads with anti-peck spray...
I have 3 white crested black polish bantams, two are frizzles, one is not. Anyway that’s not the point, they hatched 8 days ago and they have the craziest personalities. Every time I open the brooder they fly out to sit on my lap, they’re constantly jumping on and off the top of the brooder...
Hen or Roo? I feel like this is an obvious rooster but I’d like others opinions. It’s my silkie hens first and only surprise hatched baby, named Sola, meaning only in Latin! I can’t keep if it’s a roo, so hoping someone with better knowledge than me can tell me it’s a hen 😂
I wasn’t expecting this many responses! I managed to get some starter feed in the end, it was hard to find at this time of year, one store had one bag.
To answer all questions though, I’m in Ireland, the weather has been freezing for the last while & hen hasn’t brought baby off the nest yet...
My hen hatched one singular baby yesterday evening that I didn’t know about until I spotted the egg the day before. What can I feed the chick in a pinch?? I can’t buy starter feed until Monday where I’m at.
I had to rehome Bob as he and his brother Ringo started fighting when Bob started crowing. He’s now the only roo in a flock of 10 living his best life. I now have one roo and two hens, they started mating a few days ago and one just started laying yesterday, I plan on getting three more hens...
