Waited 6 weeks for this batch of chicks from Cackle and the one bird that's not going to make it is the 1 Giant that I really need.
So anyway I am looking to buy 1 Black Giant male.
I live in North Idaho (of course) but at this point I'm willing to drive pretty far to get this bird.
My leghorns are the same size at that age.
The crown indicator seems foolproof with White Legs, it comes in faster and bigger on the males, that's a male.
The Barred Rocks may also be a rooster but I wouldn't snap his neck based on the crown in that picture.
I try not to do anything. I figure it's all out of our hands really, either the eggs will hatch or they won't. I don't even candle them.
It sounds like you have a good incubator. I set mine at 99.5 and leave everything thing alone until I get a chirp or pip, usually day 19.
But really I just...
They should be fine with the weather at that age.
Can they survive with the older birds, if any?
I put mine outside at 3-4 weeks unless the weather is really brutal.
5 old fat hens on borrowed time
2 bantam roosters, sold one, butchered one today ( my first )
6 bantam hens, one walked out of the forest with 2 chicks yesterday
1 bantam chick, hatched wild 4 weeks
4 incubated chicks from Worley Community center (3 weeks)
15 white leghorn hatchery chicks, lost...
On July 1, the pretty all brown bantam hen there brought home 7 surprise chicks.
If you look closely you can see the fastest, smartest, strongest chick ( only surviving ) chick of the bunch right next to her.
I need to build more coops to accommodate my growing flock.
I plan on starting a 6x8 coop made from rough lumber ( free ) to house 12 birds.
I'm not sure if I want a wood floor or bare earth.
I plan on this being a throwaway coop as I plan on building more.
My primary coop doesn't have a...
I moved out to my uncle's farm in May and I've been taking care of his flock since then. He has given me permission to raise my own chickens for profit so here I go...
Right now I have 15.
5 are fat old hens, but very nice.
4 bantam roosters, 6 bantam hens, 1 surviving wild chick of seven.
I...
