The mystery/humor of buying straight runs

I have a roo SLW. He is very pretty but absolutely useless (crows far too often for no reason and is scared of everything at the peril of the hens).

The mystery/humor of buying straight runs

Just thought I'd share for a good laugh. Most people are crossing their fingers for pullets. We bought 6 straight runs from a store in hopes of a a pure bred Welsummer rooster. We bought 6 just to be sure we'd have at least two pullets. We thought we'd and up with a lot of roosters! Well fast...

    Terrible hatch rates

That's extremely interesting! It's amazing how hard it is to incubate and the mama hen just sits on them and they pretty much all hatch. I really hope one of mine goes broody so I don't have to go through this hassle lol. With my luck, the whole bunch of them will go broody at the same time!

    Terrible hatch rates

I'm sorry I don't know what internal pipped looks like or the correct position. I had to rip the membrane, it wasn't easy to get to the chick, and it was white. The shells also broke into little pieces when I cracked them. Does that mean shrink wrapped?

This was so helpful! Thank you! Dumb question: do you put the thermometer inside the incubator?

    Terrible hatch rates

Maybe. The four that hatched didn't hatch until day 23-25. I'm going to try one more time before throwing in the towel.

    Quail eggs - late hatching

I have the same issue. Our recent hatch out of 40, 9 hatched and they hatched on day 21! I have no advice but wanted to let you know you're not alone with this issue.

    Terrible hatch rates

Yes, we leave them until day 25. Nothing. This time we had two pip and then zip :\ The rest didn't even pip.

    Terrible hatch rates

Oh okay! I'll try dry hatching again. I think maybe when I try to up the humidity I do it too much. I never read anywhere not to go over 30. That might be my issue!

    Terrible hatch rates

So, I am new to incubating eggs. I keep hoping my hens go broody because at the end of three weeks, nothing but disappointment almost every time. We've incubated four times now and one time got nothing. This time we had 30 eggs and only 5 hatched, one of the chicks has wry neck. They were also...

My rooster snapped ..... WARNING : GRAPHIC CONTENT

That's nuts! You did the right thing. Our rooster used to be chill too but is now on the list to be culled once a cockrel is mature. He attacked my child and me. He doesn't do it to me anymore bc I go in the area with a fat stick but I need to have my eyes on him at all times which sucks because...

My least favorite word is program. You know it's going to cost money and 80% be useless.
