I have a mixed flock of about 13 week old pullets
Jersey Giants (1 of which turned out to be a rooster) - Didn't realize until he started crowing :)
Buff Orpington
Mystic Maran (best guess)
Barred Rocks
Rhode Island Red
Silverlaced Wyandotte
Black Sex Link
Pearl Star Leghorn
I am going to...
This is called a different name but since it's a hybrid I just assumed it was a mystic maran... It looks exactly like my pictures... My girl is only 13 weeks so maybe she gets a small red comb and waddle as she matures...
Any chance it's a mystic maran hybrid??? They had them at the store I bought them from... The mystic maran is black... I'm almost certain it is a mystic maran.
If have a general idea of a pool of breeds it might be... I bought baby chicks from family farm and home in my area. They didn't have any exotic breeds.
I can't remember the breeds I bought... I know I have a couple jersey giants... but I believe I have those ID already... one of which ended up being a rooster. Any help would be great.
I will mention that the chickens will be fenced in inside of a horse pasture during the day only. So I don't think ground predators will be a big issue during the day. The chickens will obviously go back to the coop during the night.
I am looking into buying some poultry netting from Premier 1 and wanted to know if electrifying it is necessary. Also I wanted to know if I should get the 48' height or if 42" is good enough.
I am getting 7 Black Australorp hens and 1 rooster in a few weeks. I have never had Australorps before and I am wondering if they are a flighty chicken. If so I'm looking for advice on how tall my run walls should be or if I need to put a top on it. Thanks for any information and advice...
Yeah I suppose I will have to block off the old spot... I just don't think they know what they are supposed to do in the new nest boxes. I will have to try golf balls and then set them in the buckets.
