I was planning to worm with Wazine 17 anyway. Will that treat the gapeworms too? I have no idea where these birds came from or what conditions they were in. I will take a look for the gapeworms. I want to protect the rest of my flock as best I can by treating these guys with basically anything...
Just adopted 2 rescue pullets from the local feed store yesterday. They were rescued by the ASPCA from somewhere in Queens within the last 3 or 4 days. They appear to be about 6-7 weeks old or older. They are fully feathered, not too leggy but their combs are not yet developed.
One pullet...

I didn't want to order the 10set one and I'm glad you posted this!
You're very welcome! Oh, and shipping is free on those, too. Makes it all cheap enough that even I can afford them.
awesome! I jut bought the 5 pack for $3.90. The hanging waterer I am using now is...
I had a recent experience with weight loss and watery poops in one of my birds and it turned out she had coccidiosis and e coli. Keep an eye on your PRB for weight loss or decline in sociable behavior or any lethargy. She could be sick. Deworming sounds like a god idea to me and keep a close eye...

I've learned a great deal from the experience of my birds being sick. I've determined it's very important to be observant of any weight loss in your birds, especially any that are showing any signs of a decrease in activity or changes in their droppings. It's really important to know...
You know, I am kind of afraid to post this ...not sure what kind of reply I will get but my flock apparently has coccidiosis and maybe e coli (I know one does and she's being treated, I have to assume the others have it as well although they are well) All the chickens have had watery poop...

Beautiful looking flock you have there!
Thank you. I really enjoy the diversity (I think all the Black Copper Marans are hiding in this pic though...I love them!).
Wow, sounds like your flock is off to a rough start. The ones in the coop will get the hang of the roosting thing before...
I just moved my 3 girls into a new coop 3 days ago, they seem to be adjusting well; resumed laying yesterday but haven't figured out that they are supposed to roost one the dowel instead of fighting over the nesting box. I have another who's been isolated in the infirmary in the basement for...
We have 4 chickens and they all have multiple names...
Fluffy Bottom, our little flock leader/alpha Red Star is also known as Little Red, Miss Curiosity and of course, affectionately, Fluffy.
Our Easter Egger's name is Cat Wizard (Don't ask, I don't know, someone else named her) she is also...
Yes, I was also recommended to give buttermilk because of the beneficial cultures and because it basically coats their digestive tract while yogurt can kind of go right through them.
I noticed bloody stools in the other birds today. I know this is often seen with coccidia and these are the...
Thanks everyone for your replies, I was away, working and otherwise exceedingly busy so not able to respond earlier.
I haven't tried the injections yet. She has started drinking a little water on her own but it's not much. She also will only eat live things, worms/meal worms and...
Ok......so c/s is back. and it shows she has proteus and e coli as well as the coccidia. Sigh. poor thing. I have to start treating with baytil or trimethaprim sulfa as soon as possible. she definitely showed some signs of improvement after being treated with the sulmet but her poop is still...
My little 3 year old black star Bubs is currently battling coccidia, e coli and proteus. She is in the process of completing a course of sulmet for the coccidia (had I known better I would have treated with corrid instead....but I had already begun treatment)
Now the stool C/S has come back...
NEWSFLASH!!
We've discovered Bubs has coccidia from her stool sample. No results back on the stool c/s to see if there is a secondary fungal or bacterial infection. We are treating with Sulfa methazine that we ordered from Jeffers.
I am happy to report that prior to beginning treatment there...
