Tractor Supply Co. Chicken Coop Reviews Thoughts Feedback - Why and Why Not ?

I use a 2x4 with with 3" screws on the short side spaced every 4 inches. I also don't use that kind of staples, I use fencing staples. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/hillman-group-12-lb-barbed-staple-galvinized-150-8ga?cm_vc=-10005 They're a pita to hammer in, but I know they...

You'll probably want to make a fence stretcher too, so the fence is nice and taught.

Just remember when you buy that not all welded wires are created equal. I've found the one ones from home depot to have a lot of broken or missed welds on the wires. I got 200'x48" of the 1/2" for I want to say $140 last year. Good quality on that one. The 2"x4" welded wire I always buy from...

Tractor Supply Co. Chicken Coop Reviews Thoughts Feedback - Why and Why Not ?

I've got 2x4 welded wire on the outside of the run and I put 1/2 inch hardware fabric on the inside. A couple of the chickens used to like sleeping outside with their heads through the fencing. That ended up with them getting their heads bitten off and the bodies pulled through the 2x4 welded...

Tractor Supply Co. Chicken Coop Reviews Thoughts Feedback - Why and Why Not ?

My current coop is built out of my buddy's old deck. For some reason they decided to use 2x6s instead of decking and let me tell you, the thing is a beast, pretty sure you could hit it with a car. It's too easy to find free scrap for me to ever pay for one of those little things. The run is...

Fun indentifying breeds (Rainbow Layer Assortment)

#4 I would say is Jersey Giant being that the face doesn't look quite right for a BA, but what color are the bottoms of the feet yellow or pink?

Hawk hanging over my run! ALL DAY!!!

As long as the hawk can't get at the chickens I would just let him be. Just saying I'd rather have a hawk then weasels, rats or mice.

    If you have a dog.....

Funniest thing was actually watching my dog pick up a little chick. She would step on their feet so they couldn't move then the whole body disappeared into her mouth. After a few times the chicks got used to it and stopped struggling. Such a good surrogate mommy.

    If you have a dog.....

I've got 2 pitbulls who absolutely love my chickens. When I first got the chicks I would on occasion wake up at night and see that my older girl had removed the chicks from their box so she could cuddle up with them. They are definitely very protective of the chicks too, my neighbor's dog...

4 hens and only 1 rooster, will it help?

I recall reading, in one of these threads, that one lady trained her roo not to crow. You could try that too.

Are building permits needed to construct a run? Please let me know

You really need to consult your local ordinances to see whether a building permit would be necessary for that run. I would say that it wouldn't be necessary being that you can usually get away with calling something like that a temporary free standing structure. As long as it doesn't connect...

    Egg wait anyone???

I'm at week 17 tomorrow. Two of my BAs look like this. The other one has a big bright red comb and kind of squats when i put my hand on her back. She looks like she's about ready to lay, i guess, but it's too soon right?

Anyone ever bought "used" battery birds?

For 4 bucks you could always throw 'em in the crockpot and make some dinner.

The saga continues....feel free to bang your head against the wall too

It's not the poor dogs fault, tell animal control to shoot the lady instead.
