Great posts! Thanks so much for the info. I only have 2 hens, no Roos. I'd love her to hatch some little ones. She'd be a lovely mum! My other hen is a bit bored I think.
Yes she does! She also puffs herself up. She has 1 of her eggs and the golf ball. I was thinking about having her hatch some fertilized eggs but didnt know if it was too late.
I'd like to go. It'll be my first poultry show. I'll see if Picanins will come with me :D Excuse my ignorance but do they sell chicks and older chickens there or is it just exhibition? Either way, I'd love to go!
Ok I'm inspired! I've never really done much gardening - I always have great vision but lack the follow through. Perhaps I should start with raspberries in egg cartons. I live in South Florida where the weather is wonderful but the soil is not! I'll give it a whirl and follow this thread to see...
3 out of 14 eggs went into lockdown today. I wasnt sure if 2 of them were still alive but then 1 wobbled!! Did eggtopsies on the remaining 11 - seems like a very low fertility rate. Only 1 had a blood ring.
Fingers crossed Nik! The south florida fair is this weekend. I'm wondering if there'll be any chicks available.
Wish I had gone to the Lake City show Stan. I saw there's one coming up in Inverness, perhaps I'll drive up :D
Anyone in Florida with cream legbar chicks or hatching eggs. I am incubating some right now on day 11 with 3/14 viable. Knowing my luck if any hatch they'll be Roos! Just trying to anticipate my next plan!
I'm in the same predicament, living in a residential area. Not sure if you love Barnvelder but you might also want to look at Welsummer (dark brown eggs) and cream Legbars (blue eggs). At least you'll know you have girlies! Good luck!
