It's official, I can't wait anymore I'm going to plant inside

I just started a bunch of peppers. I start mine in the little mini greenhouses and place on a heat mat. Sometimes I use lights but if it is pretty warm outside I set them in a shed by a sunny window and just rotate the tray every few days. Once they are sprouted good I either put them outside or if its still too cold at night I put them in the big greenhouse. I still need to start my tomatoes. I am late doing them.

I couldn't wait any longer either! This is my second year of gardening. Last year got me completely smitten and I cannot wait to do bigger better things this year! I started off some tomato seeds in egg containers, but plan to get some more seeds next week. I'd like to try some raspberries and pumpkins in addition to the usual veggies. We'll see how it goes! I also just put some wild bird seeds in a jar tonight to see if I can sprout anything for my chicks that arrive next week. :weee
Ok I'm inspired! I've never really done much gardening - I always have great vision but lack the follow through. Perhaps I should start with raspberries in egg cartons. I live in South Florida where the weather is wonderful but the soil is not! I'll give it a whirl and follow this thread to see what everyone else is up to!

I need to start my plants. However, I started canning stuff last fall for the first time and the only place to stack my canned goods was on the seed starting shelves my husband built for me. So now, I am forced to clean of some shelfes in the storage area for the canned goods so I can start my seeds for more canned goods next fall ! :)
We use the 4' flourescent light fixtures also. Ours are hung by chains from the shelf above so they are adjustable. And we use one cool light lamp and one warm light lamp - opposite ends of the light spectrum for a closer to sunlight effect.

That is the same bulb set up I use and it works great. You sound like me....I had stuff stored on my rack in the off season too!

Good luck with your seeds.....As of yesterday, I have hundreds of little seedlings popping up in the trays I started.

Just thought I'd share some sprouting plants. This is one flat of tomatoes with 100% germination of 8 different varieties. I also have greenhouse cukes, savoy cabbage, and Annas d'Americana melons sprouted. Not sure what I'm going to do with those quite yet as I didn't expect them to germinate so quickly. I ended up having to bring them in from the greenhouse because it got too cold last night and tonight to leave them out there so I set them on top of the dehydrator that was running and it warmed them up very nicely.

And as if my fire to plant needed any more fuel, I've been reading "A Rich Spot of Earth" by Peter J. Hatch about the gardens at Monticello and Thomas Jefferson's gardening journals, etc... If plant history or gardening stories interest you, it's a great read.

I learned my lesson last year. I started seedlings in late Feb. and they all came up beautifully. They were doing really good....until my roommate decided it was to hot in the room and left the window open. Now I will probably start in mid April.

I had a good start on plants last year and left them as seedlings too long and they all wilted. I should have transplanted them. This year will be different. good luck to everyone.

I'm doing a small tray of alfalfa for my rabbit! I started the seeds in a seed sprouting jar and then moved them to a repurposed plastic mushroom container.

Here is a photo of the 8 trays I started 10 days ago....

A closer shot of two of the trays from the bottom right shelf: Peppers on the left and tomatoes on the right.

Another tray of tomatoes...

I will be putting small fans on each level at the end of the week and transplanting these to larger pots in about two weeks or so.
