    Turkeys ostracizing others

Hello and good day. We have three adult females two of whom are small and more juvenile, but i believe fully grown, perhaps a year old..and one of whom has a hurt leg that was healed broken, when we got them. The others, including the 13 babies have begun to chase off the two young females. The...

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

Everything has improved greatly. The house is free of mites. The infestation was so bad, that there were thousands of mites crawling on my hands and arms after cleaning; now there are none! I have been using multiple cures, for the doubts. Cleaned house with Creolina and poured dilute Creolina...

    Neem oil for mites

I have been using neem oil recently, to combat red mites, with great success. I use little dabs of oil rubbed into the roots of the feathers, neat. I mix it with alcohol to spray on roosts and in house. Here it can be very humid. For this I use alcohol to dry rapidly...other times I also mix...

    Former future chicken farmer

Thank you for the warm welcomings. I wanted to also say that the advices about how to help with birds in ways that are natural and easy to come by and do for yourself are the most helpful for me to share with my community. Mostly my neighbors will not be willing or ABLE to buy much of anything...

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

I've been rubbing a bit of diatomeas beneath their feathers and it seems to be helping a lot. I feed them garlic and spray them with homemade garlic spray. I wasn't sure the neem directly on their bodies would be safe. I think we are victorious, but still have some work to do and also need to be...

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

That's great advice for giving them b-vitamins or organ meats which they steal from the dogs also...but we will probably give them some in their 'run' so that we can close the dogs and cats out and they get all of it.

Eating a chicken who is unwell

She doesn't seem to be laying eggs, nor is she broody. I am not sure if it is vent fleet. There is no veterinarian here who knows much about chickens, so I'm trying to learn to care for it all myself. She seems fairly well otherwise, active and eats fine, nice shiny feathers otherwise..she is...

Eating a chicken who is unwell

We have one chicken who came to our flock already quite old and she seems mostly healthy. She lays no eggs, however and her behind is always goopy. We haven't had her for long. I am not sure maybe it's better for the flock she is not around. But my companion wants to eat her and I don't know if...

Injured Turkey - Can see her lung and inside her chest cavity WARNING:graphic picture

She can make it! We had a chicken attacked by a dog with her crop outside of her body. I found her that way in the middle of the night. She'd been hiding but came to the front door sometime in the night and when I went out to pee, I saw her eyes glint in the moonlight, under the 'bridge' over...

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

I have inspected inside the mouth and nose of the wheezing sneezing hen, and there it seems normal. I did not mention breeds, because they have different names here. The flock is mixed. I am trying to determine the breeds.

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

My location is in Uruguay. I think permethrin is available but I'm not sure. We are trying not to use the chemicals as this is a fragile chemically damaged ecosystem already which we are rehabilitating. I have not seen a vitamin for birds here. But they free range all day, eat many kitchen...

Infestation of mites and concurrent cold

Hello. Thanks for the help. Here in the country, the internet is poor at best. Also, where I live most people including most of the veterinarians will laugh at you if you ask about medicine for a chicken. They will say, it is just a chicken, leave it be. For these reasons your help is...
