Lets play name that breed chick!

My guess on the 4th pic would be a W.L. red cornish. I have no idea on the other three, but they are cute.

    Barking hen . . .

Has anyone ever heard their hen bark? Two of my hens did not go into their coop lastnight and around midnight my husband woke up to what he thought was a dog barking in our backyard. He retrieved the flashlight and went out to the corner of the house and found our two hens. The marans was...

    Blue-Lemon EE?

I have an Ameraucana (not an EE) who is almost that exact same color. The only difference is she has a dark brown head and a blue beard. I think she is absolutely beautiful. She is from a wheaten blue rooster and a mahogany hen. We have just been calling ours a blue wheaten for lack of a...

Something got my millie fleur and hurt my bantam roo

My two bantams were in a coop when my d'uccle was taken. I put Bob in a cage in the garage for safe keeping and some quiet to heal. I double-checked my coops for the bigger birds and they are all secure. I think it might have been a raccoon -- it busted in through one of the sides. My hubby...

Something got my millie fleur and hurt my bantam roo

I went out this morning to feed my fluffy butts and my little d'uccle girl is gone. I searched the entire yard for her and she isn't anywhere Not only that but my bantam roo, Bob, is injured. His right wing is shredded, he is limping and he is barely eating. He must have put up a good...

16 wk old rooster attacked daughter, new ? post #38

I agree that you need to send Doodle to freezer camp. I have a 5 y/o daughter and a 2 y/o son and if my roo went after either of them the way you described he would be gone in a heartbeat. One of our local mail carriers was recently attacked by a feral rooster while delivering to a local...

    OMG!!! Bigggg Eggg w/pic

Are you sure you don't have an ostrich hiding somewhere in your coop? I can't believe that egg came from a chicken! The poor girl who laid that deserves some extra treats today.

I am still a newbie, but I agree that you have a rooster there. His saddle feathers are very clear on the photos you provided. Great pics!

11-week-old Silver Laced Wyandotte - pullet or roo? Please help

I am fairly new to chickens, but I am positive that you have a rooster there. My SLW hen is the same age and her comb and wattles are barely developed. Also, with the SLW roos they tend to have an abundance of white on the wings where the hens have more lacing. He is a good-looking bird!

    Chickens of yesteryear....

My mom was raised on a farm in rural Oregon (she was born in 1933) and they would order 500 chicks (RIR and White Leghorns) every spring. They let them forage and fed them some of the grains from the crops they raised. They were the main source of meat for the family for the year.

I scared NOT to lock the coop door each night....

We currently have 3 separate coops and I don't close any of them. It is just too hot here in Florida, even at night. Though the coops are well-ventilated I think it would just get too stuffy. We do have raccoons and opossums around here, but I have the added benefit of having a guard goose...

What to do? Hubby doesn't want all 5!

My husband and I originally agreed on only 2 chickens. We came home w/5. I then had to return one of them and came home w/3. I love chicken math! To make a long story short, we now have 2 adult laying hens and 13 chicks. We bought our first chicks at the end of April. I have to say I am...

Can you guess what I am?

I like to guess! I am going to say a black copper marans rooster. (Although, I am probably wrong because I am still so new to all this).
