    Nesting turkey question

Update, she decided this afternoon to leave the nest. I went in and removed the remaining eggs and old hay. Gave her and her 3 remaining poults fresh hay and the poults some food and water. We have a grand total of 17 poults. 14 are in the brooder. I'll leave the 3 with her for now. She's an...

    Nesting turkey question

Yes, really. The entire enclosure is covered in 1/4 inch hardware cloth after we lost two older poults to a snake last year.

    Nesting turkey question

My hen has been on her nest for a while, over 35 days. I've been placing her food near her so she can eat, which she has, but how long is too long? Should I remove the remaining eggs? My husband is getting concerned we could loose her if she continues. She has hatched 12 so far. It seems she...

    Do turkeys hold a grudge

This is a first for me. We always raised BB and decided to become more independent by raising our own.

    Do turkeys hold a grudge

That's what I'm afraid of. She was wary prior and I raised her from a week old. Also, while she was nesting her mate passed away. I found him one morning and buried him so that could be another strike against me.

    Do turkeys hold a grudge

My hen hatched 12 poults over the last week or so. I've been removing them a day or two after hatching. She hisses and threatens but tonight when I took two more that hatched she became down right irate and threw herslef at the wired enclosure. I feel awful fortaking them. She's been very...

    Collecting turkey eggs

Thank you! I didn't want to disrupt her laying and have her stop laying completely. They're confined to an enclosure because of predators so if she decides to lay some where else I'll have no problem finding them.

    Collecting turkey eggs

I've raised turkeys before, however this is my first time having turkeys lay and collecting them. Our hen has laid 3 eggs so far-- two or three days after laying the first egg. She seems very attentive to them so if I collect them will this disrupt her continueing to lay? Should I leave the...

    Introducing poults to each other

I don't know yet for sure, but I'm suspecting the older ones might both be female. They haven't given me any indication of being male as of yet. I'll try to be brave and introduce them today. I'm always a coward when it comes to introducing animals, lol. Chickens I know exactly how to introduce...

    Introducing poults to each other

I have four poults. Two are 7 weeks and two are 11 weeks. They are in my basement right now separated but need to get outside in a mutual coop. How do I introduce them to each other? I've done this with chickens but never turkeys. TIA

6 week old poults kiiled by a snake.

I put my four poults outside yesterday for the first time in a predator proof enclosure. I went to check on them two hours later and two were dead. One obviously from a snake. The other two were shaken but fine. I moved them back to the basement and now I'm afraid to put them back outside...

Last Year I Started Beekeeping - So Exciting

I haven't had much luck the last several years wintering over pkg Italians. I now have carni's and though they can get a little testy in fall protecting their honey they winter over beautifully. I would suggest joining your local bee club and getting a nuc from another beekeeper whose bees have...

    Exasperated

I don't know a lot about chickens but give yogurt and acv a try. I give my dogs yogurt for their digestive system and it works like a charm! The acv has been working wonders for my chickens too.

Last Year I Started Beekeeping - So Exciting

Beekeeping is an exciting hobby! I've been beekeeping for 16yrs and I'm always learning something from the ladies! The biggest thing I've learned from them is to keep calm. It can be a little unnerving at times when you have 200,000 bees in a hive and thousands flying around you when your doing...

    Chickens won't use waterer cups.

I just received my cups and I was planning on using heat tape around the bucket and down the pipe. I'm going to put it together this weekend so I'll let you know if and how it works out.

    together but apart

I have 6 red sex link hens about 7 1/2 months old. Reading this forum I considered myself lucky that my girls got along. Well I counted my blessings too soon I think. The last few weeks have been a challenge. The one hen that is being picked on does everything in her power to stay out of...
