    Is this mareks?

Ok thank you. She doesn't have any other signs of Marek's, so I'm still hopeful. I will try some supplements. It's weird, she did that for about 30 minutes, but since then has been normal. I noticed because another (older) chick pecked her a few times. She's been free ranging the last few...

    Is this mareks?

She was fine yesterday. Just started doing this an hour ago. 11-12 week old EE (and her rooster who is upset I just separated her). Can it be something else? I posted this and now she’s walking around (pacing rhe cage I just put her in) but I’m worried.

Will cockerels sing an egg song?

I am also leaning towards cockerel. Honestly I would love it if this chicken does warnings calls. The last cockerel we had just constantly attacked the dogs.

Will cockerels sing an egg song?

This is my 10-11 week old EE named Penguin. I have been thinking for a few weeks that Penguin was a cockerel (behavior, bigger comb, red splashes all over, and looks like they might be getting saddle feathers). Today I was startled by a loud egg song….very distinct….very “egg song”! So I went...

    Injured chick

Just to update--after a week of steady decline, she died. The last 24 hours I didn't really expect her to keep living. There has been no other sickness in the flock. I had 2 days of some bloody poop from another (not sure which) chick, but that's gone away with a week of corid.

    Injured chick

So I've been giving her corid for a day, and a little drop to the rest of the flock. She looks the same--sleeping all day, unless I force her to drink. She drinks a bit, kind of moves her head rapidly side to side for a sec (I don't know what this is even after much googling), then has diarrhea...

    Injured chick

So this is day 3 and she is now sleeping while standing (instead of laying down). She will drink TINY amounts of water if I force her, and has not eaten that I can see. She's still in a cage by herself with a blanket which she doesn't leave. When I make her drink she fights me a little (which...

    Injured chick

Hi- this is the next morning, and she is awake but barely moving (basically she responds if I move her in some way but that’s it). She will drink little bits of water or Gatorade only if I manually dip her beak in it. Not eating. She had a couple runny poops. Is this a normal part of shock after...

    Injured chick

Ok in the last 10 min her neck seems better. She’s very still but in a more normal position. Now I’m wondering if she just got pecked by another chicken. There are big ones out there- maybe she stuck her head out through the cage or another chick.

    Injured chick

Her neck is not moving well and she’s not holding up her head.

    Injured chick

I had a few 4-5 week old chicks in their own run outside. It’s not as secure as I’d like but the dogs are out and it’s near the house. I heard a chicken scream and ran out. I found one lying in the food bowl bleeding. She is still breathing and her injuries don’t look terrible but I’m worried...

Six week old “Americanas” (EEs). Any surprise cockerels?

In true chicken math, husband wanted lavender Orpingtons. One left in the bin, so now we have 5 EEs (labeled as pullets) and one lavender Orpington (“Daddy’s Girl”) So….any surprise cockerels in here? They look like pulleys but I’m not sure of course

Two heat exhaustion deaths in a month

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I’ve set up a mister near the coop which automatically goes off at 4- and I’m adding some ice bottles to water (this has been the last 5 days). It’s funny I’m outside watching now it’s not that warm for me at all (evening, 80s) and at least one chicken is...

    EEs - gender?

Hi just curious if you can tell any signs of gender? I’ve had chickens for about a year but these are my first EEs. We got these 5 weeks ago, I would guess they were 2 weeks old (pretty feathered at that point). So maybe 7-8 weeks? I feel so confident the grey one is a pullet that I named her...

Two heat exhaustion deaths in a month

I am in SE North Carolina--this is my 2nd summer of raising chickens. Last year I did not have any issues with heat, but the chickens were young, mostly pullets. This month I lost my (only) two black Australorps. One died because she was broody, and I think I needed to bring her inside or...

Am I doing this wrong (first broody hen)

Ok, thank you. I think I will start with covering that nesting box at night.

Am I doing this wrong (first broody hen)

I have 8 hens, no roosters. My reliable layer, Roxanne (9 month old Australorp) went broody about 10 days ago? Maybe two weeks now. By that I mean she wants to LIVE in the nesting box, 100 % of the time. She comes out to eat in the AM, goes right back in there, and has stopped laying eggs as...

    First Rooster Experience- Advice

Honestly, because I live in an area where roosters are permitted, I was thinking of adopting one later that was full grown and has a nice personality. There seem to be plenty of people getting rid of them just because they can't have them where they live. But I may wait a bit before I do that...
