Thanks. The white "paint" is roofing paint and seems to clean off pretty well. We had to buy a 5 gallon bucket of the stuff so there is a lot left over if we ever want to brighten things up again.

The hammocks are made from canvas and wooden spars. They fold up once unhooked from the coop so that the poop doesn't spill out. Once the contents have been dumped out, a good strong washout from a garden hose and lay them out in the sun finishes the job. They certainly are a great idea.

Using ChickenGuard On a Horizontally Tracking Door

Here's how I made the ChickenGuard automatic door system work with my horizontally opening door. Note: The ChickenGuard company does not recommended it to be used in this type of application, unfortunately I did not know this before ordering it from the manufacturer. Materials: (Lowes...

Thanks KayTee. We are happy to say that the hammocks did cut the work load down considerably. It took about a half hour to get the interior spic and span with hardly any need to use water. We got the idea for them from a thread here on BYC. I'll have to look into your article suggestion, it...

Update: The girls are liking their new digs, the only problem is that half of them face the wrong way when they roost.

How to turn a Playhouse into an Enchanted Chicken Coop

First we want to thank everyone who has posted their stories of building their own coops and how they upgraded existing ones, we couldn't have completed ours without your help. To save money and the desire to have an attractive new chicken coop to replace our ratty old and smaller one lead us...

    MARYLAND THREAD!

The stables are still there but I can't say for sure if they still have the auction. I think they do. My home is not too far from there so I guess I've just grown used to all of the horse trailers coming by my house that I don't really pay much attention anymore. I grew up in Poolesville but...

poll: are you legal or an outlaw?

Legal. We live in a small town on a little over 3/4 of an acre. The town ordinance states that all livestock are permitted as long as they are properly housed and fenced so that they don't wander into a neighbor's yard. We have a family in town that has a cow in their back yard! I'm thankful...

    Impacted Crop, maybe?

I agree with "donnavee"-it does sound like a sour crop. Although I'm not an expert by any stretch everything I've read mentions a really bad smell with sour crop. Maybe her condition makes her more susceptible to it. Something I read mentions holding the chicken upside down while massaging...

    Impacted Crop, maybe?

I have Red Sex Link who developed the same issue back in July. I noticed one night that she was making funny head motions so I did some research @ figured out she an impacted crop. I separated her from the others, massaged her crop (which felt like it was full of sand) and gave her some olive...

Hello Everyone! My DH and I became first time chicken "parents" in June of this year. We have 4 Red Sex Links and we love them! Their names are Elsie, Ethel, Thelma and Gladys after my grandmothers and great aunts. They lay the most beautiful brown eggs! I found the BYC site while doing...
