I got another response from the vet and pathologist and they are firm in the diagnosis of Mareks so case closed on which of the two we are dealing with.
Thankfully we're doing all of those recommendations except the brewers yeast which I will be adding ASAP. I'm glad to hear someone else say...
The neighbor probably isn't even a full mile away....
I have had to euthanize one of our girls before so I at least know I can do it although I don't want to, I'll probably hold off on any decisions on that front until I have confirmation on what we're dealing with.
We need a better property...
We have 10 girls now, the big girls (our australorps) are 3 years and our Easter Eggers are 2, my sister and I raise them together our dream is to homestead someday so this is our foot in the door I suppose you could say.
We did just have some people build a house down the road and they do...
Thank you so much! This whole situation has been a nightmare, I understand there is no cure which is infuriating to me, at this point I just want to make sure I'm doing whatever I can to help them, I will be looking into these.
The vet we went to got back to me and essentially told me there's...
I posted a thread last week on my Easter Egger hen Arthur who we thought had an eye infection, unfortunately we were wrong. Within four days she was completely paralyzed.
We took her to an avian vet and had to have her euthanized, they sent her off for a necropsy. The necropsy pointed towards...
I got my hands on terramycin and started treating her with that today except things have gotten worse so in hopes more people will have some ideas I'm updating.
Yesterday I was able to get almost two full syringes of water into her over the course of two or three hours but starting last night...
...free range she just stayed under the coop.
Yesterday we noticed swelling in the left eye and she was keeping it closed and both eyes were *slightly* cloudy and now today it's very swollen and cloudy and she does not want to open it at all. I thought maybe she just got an injury so was...
That's what I am thinking as well but I've never seen or heard of that so I had to ask for another opinion. They have constant access to oyster shell in the run, is there any other way you try to get calcium in? I've given them their egg shells back before but I'm not consistent with it.
I tried getting it open with a stick but didn't get anywhere, it felt like pushing on a rubber ball... I already threw it away I wish I had tried harder to get it open now though although I'm not convinced I would have been able to stomach it.
I literally just found this in my chicken run in a pile of poop next to my Easter Eggers, what is it??? I've seen jelly eggs before and fairy eggs and I know what a lash egg is (never had one thankfully) but what is this thing??? It looks like an egg yolk but it was almost rubbery? I'm like 80%...
His crop was normal, I get a 22% protein blend from a local farmer, it's corn and soy and probioitics but I don't remember what else I threw away the label already. Everything about him was completely normal, the only abnormal thing was the "yawning" and it was only excessive Monday when it was...
I forgot to add they did just get this mixed with oatmeal for seven days towards the end of last month just as a little precautionary boost for them. Not sure if it matters or not. They also get oregano oil mixed in with their water every time we change it which is minimum every other day.
I genuinely can't figure out what is going on with my chickens or if maybe there is multiple things going on but I've been throwing everything at the wall I can think of. I now suspect gapeworm and ordered medication for it that will be here Saturday but I was curious about other people's...
I do have elector psp we spray down the coop every spring after a deep clean, I'll use that on her today. I see! I always just called it their chest bone, I haven't noticed any difference in the feel of it picking her up since she's been injured, she's our friendliest girl so we're used to...
This is the extent of her "missing" or ruffled back feathers, nothing I've been too worried about, I was thinking maybe she was starting to molt but now after seeing the bugs I'm not so sure.
She does have what looks like lice, I found some bugs with round butts on my shirt yesterday after holding her for around 10-15 minutes checking out the toe. She also has some missing and ruffled back feathers, I don't think she's been able to dust bathe like she needs too so I planned on...
