Update: She's been in the separate pen by herself now for 6+ hours. Still acting lethargic, basically just sitting and sleeping, with a little raspiness on each exhale. She was sitting right by the bowl of food and water but was not taking any until I came out with a cherry tomato. She took that...
Oh yes, my husband said that she did sound a bit raspy when he moved her to the temporary coop at lunchtime. I did not notice any raspiness this morning when examining her.
I will post an update when I get home this evening. We are thinking about cleaning out the big coop/run completely this...
Thanks for your reply. I wish I had more info to give.
We don't worm our birds. The only medications they might get are what is in their pellets and honestly I have no idea if there are any meds in their food right now. Bad mama.
As to lice/mites...I looked her over pretty good, looking for...
We have five hens - one light Brahma and two RIRs, all of which are about 2.5 years old, plus two Buff Orpingtons which are about 1.5 years old. They live in an enclosed coop/run of about 4x8' x 6' high with a raised roosting box area. We use the compost litter method on the floor of the coop...
We have 3 one-year old hens (2 RIR and 1 Lt Brahma) and 2 14-week old BO pullets. We got the new pullets at 8 weeks and they have been quarantined until about a week ago. Now they are living in a temporary coop next to the big girls so they can get to know one another through the fence. In about...
She is still lethargic. Just sitting under the lamp with her eyes closed. Doesn't want water if I offer it to her right under her nose. It's been about 2 hours now.
First time chicken owner. Three week old chicks. Five total: 2 RIR, 1 Black Australorp, 1 BO(?), 1 unknown feather legged.
The girls have been staying in their box under a light in the bathroom. Everyone seemed to be doing just fine this morning. It got warm enough outside so I took them and...
Okay, this one I don't think is what they told me it was now that I have it home. The guy didn't sound convincing as it was...
They said it was a Blue Laced Wyandotte... but from what I can see online, I am not so sure...it has feathers on it's legs... what breeds have feathers on their legs...
Here is one of my new chicks. It has feathers on it's legs... Do you think it is a Black Langshan like the feed store says?
Here it is with it's friends.
Thanks
Hi all -
I bought my 'pullets' today. They are only two weeks old, supposedly, so I am not sure how they know they are pullets and not roo's. The lady said I can bring the roo's back and get a new chick if I get a roo.
They also weren't very well informed as to which breed was which... I took...
Hello!
The coop/run is finally done and I went looking for pullets today. One place I called said they had a whole bunch of different kinds so I drove down there.
When I got to the feed store they all looked quite young despite being labeled as pullets. When I asked, the guy said they were two...
Thanks, N Racine, for your pictures. They really have helped us. We are building the same coop.
Question, did you use plywood instead of cedar? We can't find the cedar siding he suggests so I think we're going to use 1/4" plywood.
We used the cedar for framing as the designer suggested and...
