So we have 7 hens, and at least 2, if not 3, have started to lay. They are close to 5mo.
My question is about the laying habits. One seems to lay mostly in the nesting box. And at least one lays on the floor in the coop. Yesterday I found one of her eggs laying randomly in the yard. This is...
We have a normal pond, about 1/4 acer. They go down every am and forage, bathe, swim. Then come back up to their house about 1hr before dusk. Our neighbor has a pond about the same size that they have also found and hang out over there from time to time
Yes, the only place we are currently feeding is in the run. They will eventually free range, but I want them to be full size and also be putting them selves away at night so I dont have to chase them around the yard every night :)
So I have finally completed my coop. I am having trouble getting the chickens to go in at dusk on their own. I always have to load em up myself. They seem to like to nest on the ground in the corner of the run at night vs getting in the coop. I pick them up and set them on the ladder or porch of...
Has anyone ordered these from eBay? There is a 20 pack for like $15. All others are like 4 for $13. Dont want to over pay but dont want junk either. We have 10 chickens now. May grow to as many as 20. So I would need enough cups for at least 10 birds.
We have 6 pekins. I give them 4cups in the am. Then they free range in and around the pond all day. Then we give them another 4cu before we tuck em in. They devour everything each time I feed them. Should I be feeding more until bugs n grasses get going? We are in south western Ohio.
I am thinking of doing a 8x8 coop. Divided in half, half for chickens and the other half for ducks, with separate runs. Does the sq ft included the nesting boxes?
I am seeing that my coop should be 2-3 sq ft per bird. I am just trying to clarify if that is only the "house" that they roost and lay in at night. So if we have 10 birds I need roughly a 5x5 enclosure for them at night? Not including the run?
We have 6 ducklings. We plan to build their coop next to our barn and let them free range most of the time. We have a pond in the front yard maybe 600 ft from where the coop will be. Out of line of sight. Will the dicks naturally find and use the pond?
