    How to Wing Amputation????

Quote: Sorry, I thought we were talking about a duck. My mistake. It would be foolish of me to assume I know what is going on inside anyone else's mind, especially in such horrible situations..... but if I had to assume, if the mountain climber had the choice of paying the cash and going to...

    How to Wing Amputation????

You can't begin to imagine what anything more complicated than beaks or nails will cost, because lots of these folks don't know either until they start writing the bill. I come from a family of parrot owners. Being the owner of several 'exotics', yes, I know exactly what the price of...

    How to Wing Amputation????

Quote: . That would be your opinion not a fact. I stated my opinion earlier. It's not fact that a parakeet is just as alive as a dog? ok. I hope someday your life isn't left to chance based on your net worth. Would be a pity, wouldn't it?

    How to Wing Amputation????

Sounds like you found yourself a GREAT vet, and thank you for doing right by this duck. There is a risk when putting anyone under, but sometimes it is a necessary risk..... All fingers and wings are crossed here for a great outcome for your girl.

    How to Wing Amputation????

...life more valuable....more deserving, than a $12 parakeet? Why? Because it's more difficult to 'replace' financially? That parakeet is just as *alive* as the dog. The value of an animal's life should NOT be based on the pricetag around it's neck at purchase. My FREE cats have cost me a...

    How to Wing Amputation????

Yes, you should cut the duck's wing off. But you need to be able to do it with one hand. Because you would need to cut your own arm off FIRST just for practice sake to make sure you get it right when you do it to the duck. Y'know....just so you have some idea what the duck will be going through...

    Have I created a monster?

Q says there's no reason that little call ducky shouldn't be inside with his/her human mom! She thinks it's downright neglectful that most ducks are forced to live outside, without comfy dog beds and blankies!!!

Can Indoor Ducks Play with Outdoor Ducks? :-D

Actually, I have one more concern.... Patchy has bumblefoot. Yes he is being treated for it. I realize it is a form of Staph, so I wonder if it is transferable to Q if it is currently scabbed over? Thanks.

Can Indoor Ducks Play with Outdoor Ducks? :-D

I wondered if Q might get Patchy's motor runnin', but I won't let that happen, much to my son's displeasure. That boy loves all animals, especially babies, and the thought of little Q's runnin around just gets him all giddy. Not happenin'. One indoor duck is a houseful. lol I may take her...

Just some Updated pictures to share :) *heavy*

great pictures, and gorgeous ducks! I love the unique names people come up with so I have to ask, how does a duck earn the name 'catfish'?

Can Indoor Ducks Play with Outdoor Ducks? :-D

So I know the simple answer to that is.... "Why not?" I have a temporary 'foster' duck that is living outside, and my pride and joy indoor duck, Q. The two have never met, and poor Q has been sequestered to the house only since the foster duck had mites somethin' terrible, and I didn't want him...

Duck acting lethargic and unable to walk, opening and closing mouth

Quote: But it doesn't have to result in death! And it doesn't have to cost 'thousands'. If you're not going to fix her, at least pay the office call to have her euthanized. We acted quickly, but Q was in bad shape right before surgery. What a terrible way to go. Don't let your duck go down...

Muscovy Ducks And Chickens Do Not Mix

My indoor muscovy lives peacefully among dogs, cats, a tortoise, an iguana, a rabbit, and at one time, a ferret. But she did attack my sun conure the one and only time they met. They have not been introduced again. Even still, this story sounds 'fishy'.

    Meet Patchy the Pekin

He's definitely a special guy....with his fair share of problems, and then some.... lovesduckies.... the pool isn't as clean now as it was in the picture. But I have to keep it as clean as possible so his foot doesn't get dirty. katharinad.... he didn't "look" too bad, actually. He was...

    Meet Patchy the Pekin

Meet Patchy! Patchy is blind, was covered in mites, and is gimpy with a foot that turns inward. I also noticed he has a bad case of bumblefoot on the inward-turned foot, and have begun treatment today, and made him a temporary 'boot' til I can order a neoprene pair of shoes from the member here...

Duck acting lethargic and unable to walk, opening and closing mouth

www.carecredit.com Not all vets accept this, but many do, and it can lessen the sting of a lump sum vet bill.

Duck acting lethargic and unable to walk, opening and closing mouth

My duck ate a penny and a dime, and had to go through surgery to remove them. She exhibited the same symptoms you are noticing in your duck. She didn't have long by the time we noticed the symptoms and went downhill quickly. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=356370...
