Help Identifying "Rare Chicken Bin" Chicks

It definitely looks like a rose comb, rather than the single comb most of my others are getting. It's little tail feathers are also a lot longer than the other chicks'.

Help Identifying "Rare Chicken Bin" Chicks

Thank you! The first one is super sweet and I can already pet her while she sits in my hand. The second is flighty, but I caught her and she roosted on my hand. Let's hope she's not quite as crazy as the other stories of Silver Spangled Hamburgs I've read about! :D

She does, but in the brooder with the others she's really gray. It must be the lighting!

Help Identifying "Rare Chicken Bin" Chicks

The Lavender Orp is definitely possible for the first! Especially after looking up photos of others at the same age. I should have clarified, there are only two chicks, so the first two photos are one and the last two are the other. :)

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello, fellow Washingtonians! I'm re-starting my backyard chicken-keeping after 5 years (yay, fresh eggs!) and wanted to introduce myself. I live in the Methow Valley and decided to go with an assortment of chicks (2 RIRs, 2 Light Brahmas, 1 white leghorn, one silver-laced Wyandotte, and two...

Thanks!!! I couldn't let them stay there. They're joining the 10 I already have! :D

Help Identifying "Rare Chicken Bin" Chicks

So, I was at the feed store today and came home with these sweet chicks from the "rare breed" bin. I did some googling and couldn't figure it out, so I'm turning here. Can you help me identify the breeds? They are about a week old and were sexed as pullets. The first chick is gray but with some...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

It's been a really long time since I've been on this thread...hundreds and hundreds of posts!! So, my chickens just started laying (wyandottes), and I have gotten three eggs in the past three days, all really small, but I understand they get bigger. :) Question is, from that frequency, do...

What Rabbits Do You Have? Show Off Your Rabbits Here!

I have an adorable male bunny named Woobsie. He's about four months old (estimated) and seems pretty big already. Can anyone help me with figuring out what kind of rabbit he is? Because I bought him from Rural King, I have no idea. I've been looking at possibilities and it seems...

That is fantastic. I just may have to do that..... Not sure they're literate quite yet, though...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Question about roosting. My chickens are now about 11 weeks old, and they are still huddling together in one corner of the coop for bedtime. Is this okay for them? It seems like they would get too hot on a warm night. Should I start picking them up at night and putting them on their roost, so...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Crowing! I heard crowing today from my (little?) SLW roo! Frankie is now almost 10 weeks and definitely not little anymore. I was surprised, because I forgot when they are supposed to start. I looked over and he flapped his wings, ruffled his feathers, and let out a rather hoarse...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have Wyandottes. They are about nine weeks old right now, but are starting to get friendly. They would have been more friendly with me by now, but I have been working tons and haven't had the chance to go hang out with them. They are beautiful and fun to watch.

Personally, I would vote pullet, but that is comparing her to my very obvious roo: This is what my two girls look like right now: Mine are at 8 weeks right now.

Mine are the same way! The GLWs have beautiful lacing, but one SLW is very very white with little lacing, while the other is mostly black with little streaks of silver down the middle of her feathers. They are only 8 weeks old though :P. Hard to know what they will eventually look like.

All of these hatches are making me anxious to try it myself. :) Is it hard to incubate? And do I need to pick up an incubator at the store, or is it possible to make one easily/cheaply? I work from home so I wouldn't need an egg turner, can just take a quick break and go turn them myself. Got a...

    The Wyandotte Thread

New to Wyandottes here. It will be a couple of months, but I have SLWs and GLWs. One SLW is a roo who I want to breed occasionally with the hens. Am I okay to put him with one of my GLWs, or could it ruin the resulting chicks' colors/lacing? What colors would I end up with?

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Got outside to take some pictures of our garden (our first zucchini made its appearance today!). Then I decided to take photos of the chicks. They are still pretty skittish, but two will let me hold and pet them. Today they were all pretty curious: (Bertha) (Georgia, with Amelia in...

    Pullet Has Diarrhea?

Thank you! Did some more reading, and I think it's normal, the ceacal droppings, if I remember the right name? I was just worried, since these are my first chickens, don't want anything to happen to them.

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Agreed! I figured since she was acting normal otherwise it couldn't be too bad, if there was something wrong. Glad it's normal! Now I'll wait another few days before they do something else to catch me off guard . Last time it was learning that at least one knows how to climb up chicken wire...
