Hi, all.
I am seeking an 8+ week old Black Copper Maran in Northern Illinois. I am located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, about 40 minutes from city centre.
I am willing to commute upwards to an hour out. I am flexible with price, as well.
Yeah, mine aren’t keen on oyster shells much. They prefer their sun-dried egg shells. However, fortunately, I might have the problem of too much calcium as there are often calcium deposits (“egg pimples” as my friend’s young son calls them) on some of my egg shells. I’ve refrained from giving...
Yes, I apologize for the confusing response. I’m saying I thank you for this as it will assist me with n considering the best feed for them…as their nutritional intake is almost solely based off of what feed they are eating. And the fact that you listed the specific feed you use is invaluable...
Thank you for your valuable insight. Unfortunately, my 16 hens live in suburbia. The dogs next door would go after them. Point is…I can’t let them free range all day. Has to be under my supervision.
Thus, they do rely on feed more than anything. I’d like it to be the best of the best.
I’ll be honest. Just transitioned my birds to Grubblies a few days ago. They are adjusting to the feed change. Right off the bat…the shells off some of my smaller birds are remarkably larger.
My mom tells me I’m silly for blowing money, but I have already noticed a near immediate difference...
Do you get the Grubbly crumble and mix with the Kalmbach organic crumble? Or do you think it’d be fine if I mix Kalmbach pellets with the Grubbly crumble? I just don’t like the feeds with other bits in it or they would pick through for the additives. Hence my preference for the Grubbly crumble...
Hi, all.
My barn’s nearly year old (will be in June) BCM has developed a swollen eye with what appears to be subtle discharge. Her eye has swelled in the last day, but I would say I saw some squinting a few days ago.
No other bird in the brood is showing signs of this.
Her scabbing on the...
I agree. And the only reason they aren’t certified organic is because something about what the larvae eats.
My adult hens love the grubbly treats. Their supplements look decent, too.
Hi, all.
I am deciding between Grubbly Farms and Scratch and Peck feeds.
I have read both of the ingredient lists from top to bottom and Grubbly reads more favorable to me.
I am aware that they technically aren’t organic.
However, I have been recommended Scratch & Peck by multiple people...
Hi, all!
I will be adding the following breeds to my flock on April 15th and am seeking insights (health, personality, photos, temperament, “voice” level, etc.) from those that may already have them:
California Gray
Cuckoo Maran
Production Blue
Smokey Pearl
Welsummer
Thank you in advance!
I fell asleep early last night. She was reunited with her flock in the evening (after being crated all day) free ranging and went to sleep with them. She seemed way happier and alert after being reunited. Doesn’t like being separated. I didn’t give a calcium tablet last night. I will tonight. I...
Update: 1:50 p.m. CST
I go to check on Pecker and it looks like she has a shavings nest. Sure enough…she laid an egg!
However, I haven’t checked what her vent looks like now and the shell itself is still sorta thin. Thus, Pecker can definitely do with more calcium tablets 💊.
Do I still have her...
