I had 15 maybe 3-4 week old silkies and I put them outside in a coop with a heat lamp. I was scared something was going to happen to them but nothing happened :D
Really sorry for your loss. At least you still have chickens :) I had to give all my chickens :( and I didn't even get to see the silkies I had just ordered lay eggs or sing :'(
I took mine out when they were about 2 months old. I put a heat lamp in their coop. I wouldn't let them free range with other or else they will peck them and they could injure them. Just put them by themselves. I don't think it would be good to put them outside in the winter weather at 4 weeks old.
I actually didn't give my silkies from cackle hatchery grit. Just starter feed and they all lived. Well except three but two because they got sick from the ride from cackle to the postal office and one died of cold weather.
Back then when my dad had chickens and the hens had chicks he said he'd just give them corn and they were fine. Then why do we give chick starter food? Does it affect their size or health?
I haven't checked for that actually. I'll check later how do you clean it out? And there's 1 cockerel, 1 hen, 4 pullets, and 14 silkies I don't know there sex yet.
All of the chickens I've raised/raising always loved to play fight. I had a six chicks before and they all play fought two of them were hens and 4 were roosters. But I've raised a hen that loved being the boss she would have first dibs on everything! Sometimes my rooster was even scared of him...
I ordered from Cackle Hatchery and they all arrived safe and sound ! Two of them died . I ordered 15 silkies and got 1 extra right so total 16. Now there going to be 5 months old on Tuesday ! I was actually pleased with their service! All of there staff are nice! They changed the date I was...
HELP! So i'ts winter and I put my chickens in this little coop. I think it's a small place for 21 chickens but my dad says it's enough space for them. Well my dad noticed that our Rooster hasn't been walking right. So we leave him outside of the coop for a day and he does walk but he walks...
