Hey all! I haven't been on here in quite some time! Well, I got laid off from the oilfield last March, which stinks, but it has allowed me the time to go ahead and get my flock going again! So, I placed an order with Meyer for: 5 Standard Cochins (2 white, 3 blue) 10 Light Brahmas 12 Black...

Review by '' on item 'Australorp'

I have 9 chickens and all of them different breeds except for the Black Australorps. I got a pullet and fell in love with her right off the bat and, despite swearing that I wouldn't get a rooster, I had to add another one of these to my flock! The rooster is so sweet, he perched on my arm for...

First rooster... Aggressive or normal behavior?

Thanks! That's what I was thinking but I definitely appreciate the reassurance! I really didn't figure him to be aggressive because everything I've read on BA's is that they are so docile and sweet, even with other chickens.

First rooster... Aggressive or normal behavior?

Hey all, I just started my flock and yesterday evening I picked up my first rooster, a beautiful 9 week old Black Australorp. When we got him home I took him out to the coop with 4 other pullets that are all around 7-10 weeks old or so and at first, he kind of freaked out when I brought him...

    Yet another Silkie sexing question

I know it, these little critters are so hard to tell on, that's the main reason I'm hoping that maybe behavioral characteristics will give a better idea.

    Yet another Silkie sexing question

Also, Mustang, by looking at the feather development on your 2 Silkies, I'm doubting that mine is actually as old as I was told it was at 9-10 weeks. What do you think?

    Yet another Silkie sexing question

Sorry for the quality of the pics but here they are. I've been looking and just can't make up my mind because to me the head seems a bit like a roo and also still undeveloped and the tail looks more poofy like a pullett and the body being more rounded and less slender like is more like a...

    Yet another Silkie sexing question

I've been reading and searching and reading some more on things to look for when trying to accomplish the near impossible job of sexing a juvenile Silkie. Assuming that there are no distinguishing physical characteristics to determine the sex, maybe you experts can help me according to the...

Well, I went yesterday to Blue Star Ranch and came home with 3 new babies. I got a Black Australorp, a Barred Rock and a Barred Cochin. All 8 - 13 weeks and good and healthy. I have to say that you were right Orum, Mary Ann is very nice and her honesty is certainly refreshing! I am...

Hey Rockin R, it sure would be nice if I were passing through your area sometime soon! After an unfortunate incident with a dog that was turned out at the wrong time earlier this afternoon, I lost Wilma, one of my Production Reds... I happened across a place not too awful far from me called...
