Last spring I hatch a white marans from a flock of black marans. I don't hatch anything lower than a 6 in color. I had another chick that half way hatched but didn't make it out. I will hatch again this year and see if I get more. If so I will keep them and see what happens.
BTW The one I...
I have a pair of mottled bantam chochins. the typical chicks I see on line are mainly black in color. About half of mine are like that but also have several them hatched with mostly white down. They will however feather out mottled. The kicker is every now and then one of the chick will...
I have feed scrambled eggs, shell and all, back to the chickens. I crush the shells then add to scrambled eggs as I cook them. This gives them protein and some extra calcium. So far no egg eaters.
I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I was gifted three red dorking hens and a roo last year. I tried to incubate but ALL the eggs were infertile. I noticed that the roo was not breeding the hens. This past winter I got a new red roo from a different source and he is mounting the...
Last year I was gifted 3 red dorking hens and a roo. I sat eggs over about a six week period and everyone of them were clear. I then noticed that the rooster never mounted the hens so this fall I acquired a different red dorking roo. He is supposed to be a year old and I have seen him mount...
I have a pair of bantam cochins that are black mottled. Hatched three babies today. One is black and the other two have yellow down?! I trust the woman I got them from as far them being exclusively being penned only with each other. Could there be something lying hiding in their genes...
I am in Florida and have a few bielefelder chicks available for sale. 5 females and 3 males. $10 for the girls snd $5 for the boys. They are beautiful sweet birds.
Thanks for the reply. I've done more research since this post and think if they mix I will have a big MESS. I'm just gonna try and get some hens, chicks or eggs in the silver grey. I'm in NW Florida and have my feelers out for a local lead but haven't found one. I would love to get some...
I will be getting some dorkings from a friend who is having to move and can't take them. There are three red hens and a red roo. There is also a lone silver grey roo. All of his hens were killed. What would I get if I crossed the silver roo over a red hen? Could I eventually get some silver...
I have the chance of getting a small flock of dorkings. There are 3 red hens and one red rooster. There is also one silver grey rooster. All of his hens were killed by dogs. My only option for now is to house them all together. What kind of chicks could I expect to get if the silver male...
I will post more info when they hatch. Gonna check around to see what they are going for. Don't want to try and price gauge but don't want to cheat myself either! Some of my eggs came from South Carolina and some from Cairo, Georgia.
I am in northwest Florida, Calhoun County, and will be hatching a few bielefelders. Only have a trio. Just set the incubator one week ago with 8 eggs. So far 6 are looking good. Was wondering if anyone would have any interest? Will post pics of parents and babies when hatched. Not sure...
