I'm glad to hear this. But 40 chickens?! Wow. The most I ever had was 25 and I lived on half an acre in the NE. Do you have a coop for them or just let them roam in your yard? I'm thinking, great bug conteol!
My pullet died yesterday. I did the wormer for 3 days at the recommended dose and day 4 she was no longer gasping. Day 5 she was back at it and died that night. He was a new bird and may have gotten whatever she had from the previous farm. All of my other birds are still healthy with none of...
I used the goat wormer for 3 days. She was better yesterday, no gasping, but she is back at it again today. I gave it to her to swallow. Was that correct? I just read on here on a different thread you're supposed to put it in their nose? Sounds a little odd. So I think I will try the antibiotic...
I got the goat dewormer and started that today. Let's hope this fixes her and she'll be right as rain in a few days. We traded out silkie roo for her. We got extremely lucky finding her. She is only about 5 months old and not laying yet. She's a sweet beautiful bird. We aren't sure if she is...
Thank you very much. I will leave her be. I was wondering though I have a huge 10 gallon waterer. Should I put rocks in it so the chicks don't drown? Or would it be better to put the hen and babies in a separate cage with food and water for a week or so, in the coop?
2 hatched last night! Now my speckled Sussex has kicked her and the chick out to a different nest and is brooding on the remaining eggs. I think I'm going to move the chicks into a brooder and ham raise them so they'll be friendly and I won't have to worry about my layers eating chick feed.
My tiny bantam hen just hatched 2 chicks. She was kicke out of her nest by my regular sized chicken who has gone broody and taken over the rest of the eggs. The chicks somehow got down a 4 foot drop to a new nest box on the floor with bantam mamma. I just bought medicated chick feed. I know it...
Honestly I've tried feeding my chickens slugs and none of them ate them. But this chicken is new to my flock in the last 2 months, so she may be eating them. I will make sure never to do that again.
My Americauna is gasping and wheezing. I've watched video of gapeworm and it looks like that. But then she sneezes occasionally too. She is eating and drinking, but was drooling some of the water. Her eyes are still bright and clear and there is no gunk in her nose. She's having a hard time...
Something interesting happened. Every time we would go check she would have less and less eggs. Finally she was down to 10. She was kicking them out and the other chickens were eating the dropped ones. But we have another hen that keeps laying in there with her, and laying eggs. So the numbers...
I have 5 hens and 1 is a tiny little bantam. Guess which one has gone broody! She of course is sitting on mostly regular chicken eggs. She has 2 of her own in there. Silly me forgot to count how many there are total. There are at least 10. She can't fit over all the eggs because she is so tiny...
Can you tell me what ingredients I should purchase at my local mill to create a well rounded feed? I want my eggs to be as healthy as possible for my family. We are also thinking of raising meat birds, but I want them to be as healthy and free of chemicals as possible. This is the whole reason I...
