Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

It's right where her neck ends, just before her back starts.

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

No plans to go to the vet at this point. I'm not sure any local vets work with chickens and she is very content inside for now - eating, drinking, pooping, grooming. Should we start antibiotics even if she seems to be doing good and we regularly spray with vetericyn? Or should we wait a bit and...

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

We have vetericyn and are spraying it regularly to keep it clean. Any ideas on what could have done this?

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

I got a couple of photos, but you can't really tell how deep it is.

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

My husband got a headlamp and inspected the wound last night, he couldn't see the "bottom" of the wound/hole, but there were no visible maggots. Could they be hiding out of sight or would we definitely see them?

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

I appreciate the ideas! I will try to get a pic at some point when my husband can help. He's the only one she lets hold her. We don't have raccoons here, so that's not it. She is inside the house and safe while she heals, but we have to figure this out so she can return to her coop/outside safely.

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

I can't get a photo, but will post if I can. It is very clean, no bugs or flies and we are spraying it regularly with vetericyn. It's very weird as her feathers are not disturbed like they would be from an attack. We put a mouse trap in the coop and cleaned it - no signs of mice. We live in the...

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

No bugs visible in/near the wound. The would is larger than we thought. It is partly down her back and extremely deep. She seems fine, but my husband isn't sure she's going to make it. It's very distressing. How would we know if she is in pain? We don't want her to suffer.

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

We don't know if the previous injury was the same thing or different. At the time, we had been gone overnight and the neighbor was caring for her. We though maybe a raptor tried to get her and missed, but there were no claw or teeth marks, just missing feathers and skin on the back of her neck...

Something is chewing on my chickens neck...

She is our only chicken, it's a very large coop. She had a neck injury a few weeks ago that healed up well. We kept vetericyn on it. How could we tell if it was maggots - would they be easily visible at all times? Could they burrow a hole in her neck?

...her coop. We don't see any signs of mice in there. It could have happened over a few days, it was hard to discover it, but it is really deep now. *We have moved her into a dog kennel in the house, so she is safe for now, but we really need to get this figured out so she can be safely outside...

3 Dominique Roosters Need New Home Fast (The Gorge)

I have three 5 month old Dominique roosters in the Columbia River Gorge area that need a new home (or homes). These are great birds, good at foraging and watching the sky for predators. Two are true to breed, one has a single comb instead of a rose comb - but he has the prettiest crow so far.

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

It is possible, but then the gland would be buried under that growth somewhere. Perhaps the gland is creating the scabbiness and building out the cone? Any ideas? Her comb color is fading and she won't sleep or eat with the flock - though she eats just fine if I feed her separately. Poop looks...

Fowl Pox? other causes for these growths on her wattles?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/878165/huge-lump-on-my-chicken-pointy-growth#post_13353320 A couple of the other chickens have been pecking at her lately, but the one on the other side is in the middle of her waddle. It looks like a growth...

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

It looks flat, like a skin condition, but it's actually a pointy cone shaped growth coming out about 3" from her body. It is hard. I haven't seen any mosquitos out, it's pretty early for them here - I'm in eastern-ish Washington state.

Fowl Pox? other causes for these growths on her wattles?

I posted another thread to find out about a cone-shaped growth on her tail end. This morning these spots appeared on her wattles, does anyone know what they are? Might they be related to the growth or are they fowl pox or something different?

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

She isn't showing any of the listed symptoms of Mareks. We don't have a rooster, so mating injuries are also out. It's a strange growth, looks kind of like a scab on people, but it's huge and growing out in a pointy cone... What about the growths on her wattles, any ideas there? Thank you...

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

I got some photos, it is more of a cone-shaped growth than a lump. It's hard to tell the shape in the photos, but it is hard and pointy and sticks out about 3". She is eating and drinking normally, but seems tired and stays in or near the coop most of the day. Her poop is sometimes normal and...

Huge lump on my chicken (pointy growth)

I'll get some photos when my husband gets home and can hold her still and push aside the feathers covering it. This morning I noticed she has a large, semi-raised pale spot on her wattles - it wasn't there yesterday. A smaller one is developing on the other side of her wattles too. I'll poke...
