    Hen down

I have a hen approx 9 months old. I found her by herself lying in the coop. She has no energy. I put her in a private cage with food & water. I don't think she is partaking of these. She appears to want to sleep all the time. Poop is cream color. Seems to be normal. Last month I found the...

    Rooster pussing

My rooster's bottom lobes are swollen and oozing puss. My wife says it looks like he has testicle hanging from his beak. He is not active. He is hudled in the sun. It has been cold here (Iowa) lately. I've had a heat lamp on them. My wife says he looks as if he isn't going to make it. Any...

UPDATE! 18 hens - ZERO eggs for 3 weeks...

I have 20 hens and wasn't getting any eggs. They free range so I shut them up in their coop. After a week still nothing. I let them out a day to get some excercise and graze. I shut them back up for about a week and moved their original nest box back in the coop. All this time I have a heat lamp...

    20 hens = NO EGGS

Do hens belong to a union? Is there a strike I'm not aware of? I have been lighting my coop also. Nothing.

    20 hens = NO EGGS

Thanks for the fast replies. I did move their old nestboxes back into the coop. They were laying in the new one before but I'm hoping the old familiarness of the old nests will promt a laying spree. It's a sad day when I chicken farmer has to buy eggs at $4.00 dz.

    20 hens = NO EGGS

It has been 3 weeks since I seen an egg from my hens. They went through a molting period, now nothing. I kept them in the coop for a week to so they would use the nestbox but still nothing. They were laying then I started getting 2-3 eggs daily then 1-2 eggs now “0”. Anyone else having troubles...

    Mite-dusted hens

I dusted my hens Thursday. I was informed that the dust would affect the eggs momentarily. True? If so how long do I wait before resuming the collecting of eggs for consumption? Thanks.

    My Polish are bald

My two White top Black Polish roos are bald. They don't seem to be getting pecked on. They run right up to the feeder and dive in. I don't see any of the birds picking on them. One of them was found dead this morning. I was at work when my fater-in-law found him. His head wasn't bloody. He...

    Something gutted my chickens

I was on vacation last week. My M-I-L called to tell me something got six of my chickens. One of them was gutted. They couldn’t find the others. I set the live trap Saturday nigh. I put it at the edge of the tree line by my coop. I woke up Sunday and a coon was in the trap. I dispatched him and...

My 2 year old is a nudist...

Quote: "Naked Farming" I love it and participate in it . We are on a 30 acre farm and when the in-laws are gone off in their RV, it's "Naked time." Glad I'm not that strange.

Once an Attack Roo Always An Attack Roo?

I just got rid of two roosters that had bad attitudes. One of them was a Silkie I got from a swap meet. He would attack you and fly up towards your face. He had plenty of chances but he just didn't get better . Good luck.

Teaching the chicks to come to me

I feed my 17 chicks out of a red tray. Now when I want them to come to the coop I just hold up the red tray and they come running. It is pretty funny.

House them in the neighbor’s patio and she can let them out for you
