Yep...each of our coops have industrial fans in them...we also have shade areas in the pens themselves...but usually we let them out in the yard when it's this hot so they can hunt for bugs, etc and sit under the trees....

    Cat question

We had a cat with FL, too. He lived a good, long life! Bless you for taking this handsome kitty in! We have a cat who throws up if he eats too fast, one who throws up because he licks EVERYTHING and of course the hairball routine!!! Unless the vomiting is constant or has a strong odor or...

Thank you kind soul! Who could do that to ANY animal???!!! I have several little guys that look just like him and they are all mixes of this and that but all have a little Phoenix in them... He's quite handsome. Long spurs indicate he's an older bird. They can be cut but be careful not too...

    Newbie with questions

You say you don't have any predators but I'm sure you have hawks.....my chicken coop area is TOTALLY covered with mesh bird netting so everyone can be out all day...I let them out to forage in the yard (3 acres)when I am around so we don't have any unwelcome company! Make sure there are no...

What breed of duck should I get?

My vote is for runners or cresteds...they BOTH have great personalities, come in a variety of colors and are relatively small. One thing though, my runners have NOT been good mamas...they like to lay the eggs but don't like to take care of the ducklings!!!! Definitely start with...

    What's killing my chickens???

UPDATE!!! Okay, we took all of the chicks out of the pen area and put in 2 traps with stinky cat food in the traps. This morning...NOTHING!!! At least no one OUT of the pen area was mauled. Believe me...we will try again tonight. BUT for today, we are clearing the barn out of EVERYTHING...

    What's killing my chickens???

No, all of my cats are inside ones...too many coyotes! I have a squirrel size Have-a-Heart trap...will that do? Plus, I've decided to pull the little ones out and keep them in a cage in the machine shed until we get this solved!

    What's killing my chickens???

Sorry...I just reread the posts and to answer the question about how many chickens are in the pen...9(not counting the 2 killed) and a blind in one eye adult rooster. The pen is in a corner of the barn with 2 sides of 1/2 inch wire and 2 sides concrete block with a ply wood top which holds the...

    What's killing my chickens???

Thank you EVERYONE...The entire outside coop area is enclosed ...6 foot high fences, netting over the entire area and 1/4 inch wire along the bottom of 1/2 inch wire fencing. If it's a weasel or a rat...(which is the direction I'm leaning) what do I do? Everyone (all the animals) are locked in...

    What's killing my chickens???

For the past two nights, I have lost a pullet in an enclosed pen INSIDE a concrete block barn. After the first loss, my husband pulled the fan from the window and closed and locked the window, then walked the barn and fixed any areas he thought something could possibly slip in at. This morning...
