    We have used mulch in the past but curious if there are better solutions. Sand? Someday the run may be a place to grow, so whatever wouldn't ruin the soil (now almost 90% chicken poop anyway) but help the poop breakdown and decompose would be great. Bonus points if it will provide good...

    Just to follow-up, Eleanor had Marek's and that's what she died from, she was unvaccinated. She also had some worms. We learned a lot through the process, especially the necropsy, and to never take your chicken to a city vet! $260 later and we learned an expensive lesson.

    Recovering Hen Having Trouble Balancing

    After a week of solid improvement Godzilla passed away this morning :( Her remaining poops were solid black with green fluid. I'm thinking egg perotonitis or liver damage may have been the cause, and may have just taken a really long time to cause problems.
