I'm looking for any advice on making life easier for aging hens. I have a couple that are getting up there in age and it seems they're struggling a bit. I plan on decreasing the angle of the ramp into the coop after today's incident. Our old barred rock took a bit of a tumble down the last...
I don't think it's her adjusting her crop because for the last 3 days she really has only eaten a few bites of crushed berries here and there. She will not eat her regular feed or drink other than me forcing her. Her crop is completely empty. I have checked her here and there for lice and mites...
She's a production red. I raise both production reds and rir too. She has not laid since last summer I believe. The way she moves her head around makes me think something neurological but I don't know a lot about avian illnesses. I've only raised birds for about 4 years
She eats organic layer feed. I have 6 others but I don't think that she has laid in a while. Her crop is completely empty. Her butt is red and there's some feather loss. I soaked her a couple days before this happened to treat it.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? She is about 3 years old. I found her standing with her eyes closed away from the rest of the flock 3 days ago. Since then she is very lethargic and mostly stands there with her eyes closed. Whenever I bring her out to eat she does this weird head...
Well I figured out why it was hard to find. For some reason nobody will ship this stuff to CA. Add this to the many reasons why I hate this state! I'm sure if I dig hard enough I'll find someone who will.
Ok thanks for the info I really appreciate it! I think I'll try and find the valbazen like you suggested. I searched around and can't find too many suppliers. Where did you buy yours?
I began a treatment about 7 days ago. I did not think anyone was molting but I found one who is just beginning and another who is almost done growing in her feathers. That being said I was hoping to get some advice on if I should not do the 2nd treatment or if I should go ahead with it. I have...
Thanks for the reply. I got 2 blue laced Wyandottes at the same time and they have yet to develop their comb and wattles so it makes me nervous about the sapphire gem in question. She developed way faster than any of my 6 other birds
I had my suspicions early on but did a little research and found that these birds sometimes develop a bit quicker than others. Now that she is about 5 months old I'm growing a bit concerned that she is a cockeral. What does everyone else think? If anyone qants a different or better pic please...
Thank you for the encouragement. I have a couple of new "show quality "(hopefully) birds that I'm trying to integrate. Out of my 3 existing birds only the barred rock terrorizes them. She goes out of her way to chase them back into their coop. I have had to close their side of the coop a few...
As we here in Northern California brace for our first wave of triple digits of the season, I thought it would be a good idea to install a mister to help keep the birds cool. I ran all over town and finally had to drive to the next town over just to find the mister that I thought would work best...
